TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold-chain such as Styrofoam coolers. TemperPack is embarking on an information revolution. Stakeholders across the organization are eager to infuse data into their decision-making processes and we are building a team of data professionals to support the organization's transformation.

TemperPack is seeking a jack-of-all-trades Data Engineer/Analyst to lay the foundation for its newly created Business Intelligence team. As the first member of this new team, you will wear multiple hats across the data engineering and data analytics realms. No two days will be the same, so the ideal candidate will find excitement in the opportunity to work across the data spectrum from pipeline creation through report delivery and beyond.

Given the infancy of the BI team at TemperPack, you will have the unique opportunity to bring your experience to a blank slate and guide the direction of all things data for one of the fastest growing manufacturing companies operating today. You will identify and evaluate various data-related vendors, products, and services and recommend which are necessary to ensure we build our data foundation the right way.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Proactively takes the initiative to identity and fix issues before they arise
• Can collaborate with stakeholders to effectively gather requirements but is able to retreat and work independent during the heavy lifting phases of a delivery
• Prioritizes requests from multiple stakeholders without letting lower priority requests fall off the radar

Essential Job Functions:

• Gather requirements from stakeholders across the business and gain an understanding of their needs
• Construct and maintain the data pipelines as needed to meet stakeholder's data-related needs and troubleshoot data pipeline issues as needed
• Design and create efficient data models that can be leveraged in downstream reporting
• Lead the design of TemperPack's data structure (data lakes, data warehouses, etc.)
• Create reports and dashboards in PowerBI/Tableau for stakeholders and deliver the same based on specific use case (e.g. - Sharepoint embed, email delivery, etc.)
• Teach the basics of PowerBI/Tableau to data-inclined colleagues, promoting a culture of data-democracy
• Deliver accurate SQL queries and/or data exports in response to ad hoc requests for data
• Evaluate various data-related vendors, products, and/or services for fit against company needs
• Miscellaneous IT/BI-related tasks as business needs require

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• 2-4 years in an analytics, data, software, or systems-related role
• 1+ year(s) of hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines (data source connection, ETL, etc.)
• 2+ years of hands-on experience building and delivering reports using Tableau or PowerBI (PowerBI preferred)
• Demonstrated ability of distilling effective and efficient data models out of raw data sources
• Strong SQL skills required
• Moderate Python skills required (e.g. - comfortable with requests, pandas, numpy, etc. packages)
• Basic familiarity of IT principles as it relates to data engineering required (e.g. - firewalls, network security, etc.)
• Basic familiarity with big data tools (e.g. - Spark, Scala, etc.) preferred, but not required

Education and Certifications:

• B.S. Degree (or higher) in a software/technical discipline (e.g. - computer science/engineering, information systems, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

• Be on your feet for up to 8 hours
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
• Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
• Ability to work in hot and cold environments
• Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
• Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
