As a data scientist, you provide the data needed to make business decisions, develop solutions and services adapted to business issues and understand member and client behaviour.

You lead and influence different stakeholders in projects and initiatives to proactively meet cross-sector business needs, through the development of highly innovative models and complex strategic interventions in advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.

Your initiatives require extensive, in-depth knowledge of your line of work.

You make recommendations on the development and delivery of files and projects with a very high degree of operational and conceptual complexity that require analysis and a comprehensive, in-depth understanding of the business and the organization.

You serve as an expert advisor and subject matter expert, as well as a resource person and coach for senior management and decision-making bodies. You interact with many stakeholders working in a wide range of fields and advise decision-making committees on strategic directions and business positions.
General Information on the Position
Main responsibilities
  • Ensure that data mining, evaluation, feature engineering, quality inspection and adjustment of available data, and the selection of predictors for multidisciplinary and strategic predictive modelling mandates.
  • Analyze client and partner needs, and lead initiatives involving complex business issues that may lead to business positions and recommendations involving strategic directions for the operationalization of advanced analytic solutions.
  • Apply advanced statistical machine learning and natural language process (NLP) methods to use data, and develop and optimize models and solutions that meet business needs.
  • Ensure that the programming needed to prepare and mine data, and develop, evaluate, support, roll out and manage highly conceptually complex, innovative models.
  • Represent the teams in dealings with senior managers and with partners and external organizations.
  • Establish and draft IT best practices, procedures and choices. Advise and train teams on development models and make improvements to speed up delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to improve rules and systems, anticipate underlying impacts of changes and oversee the enhancement of data management tools.

  • Workplace: Position located in Montreal or Lévis, depending on the applicant selected. The work arrangement for the position is hybrid work

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, including 5 years of experience in NLP and machine learning, preferably in an industrial context
  • PhD or MSc in computer science, mathematics or linguistics with a specialization in NLP and machine learning
  • Experience in text classification, named-entity recognition (NER) and information extraction
  • Experience using major language models (e.g. BERT, GPT)
  • Experience with multilingual models (an asset)
  • Experience with conversational AI (chatbots), recommender systems or information retrieval (IR)

  • For vacant positions available in Quebec, please note that knowledge of French is required
Specific knowledge
  • Proficient in Python and with a deep learning library (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Extensive knowledge of NLP libraries (e.g. SpaCy, Hugging Face)
  • Extensive knowledge of NLP deep learning, in particular Transformers
  • Knowledge of the history of scientific publications (an asset)
  • Independent speaker, upper intermediate knowledge of English
