Job summary
Amazon is looking for a Data Engineer to develop, build and scale data modeling solutions powering one of the world’s largest Reliability, Maintenance Engineering enterprises. As a member of the Automation Engineering team, this highly motivated candidate supports the business in all data engineering aspects of the traditional automation pyramid, and will provide consumers information on all aspects of the status of control systems within Amazon’s EU Fulfillment Network. At a basic level, these systems link our low-level automation systems with the cloud and we work at the cutting edge of automation technologies, from device level to the enterprise level. The more complex systems are leveraging Machine Learning and Big Data to drive predictive actions, preventing downtime or defects in the material handling equipment and improving the Overall Equipment Efficiency of the installations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the best engineers in the industry and help support and shape the direction of automation and machine learning systems within one of the world’s largest fulfillment networks.
- You are knowledgeable in a variety of strategies for ingesting, modelling, processing, and persisting data.
- You are able to use one or more query languages (e.g. SQL, HiveQL, SPARQL), schema definition languages (e.g. DDL, SDL, XSD, RDF), and scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, KornShell, Scala) to build a data solution.
- You understand distributed system concepts from a data storage and compute perspective.
- You understand the differences between data persistence solutions (e.g. HDFS vs RDBMS), data integration techniques (e.g. ETL vs federation), database optimization (e.g. partitioning, distribution, indexing), and join algorithms (e.g. hash vs nested loop).
- You write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects. You are able to create physical data models and optimize data pipelines for simple datasets.
- You do not put the company at risk (e.g. proper access control, data integrity, auditability, etc.). You get your data models, pipeline designs, and code reviewed. You test your code thoroughly. You classify, store, and handle data in accordance with Amazon policies
