Kelp uses Data Science and Engineering to improve relationships with our licensing partners, support data-driven licensing and legal decisions, and build tools that help operationalize our licensing agreements. We provide outstanding non-financial reporting to licensors, automate gathering information from contractual documents for compliance and business partners, and provide data analysis to legal, government affairs, and licensing. Our work allows Spotify to secure the content rights needed to power new products and business innovation.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to develop datasets, tools, and insights that allow us to better serve our external licensing partners. This is an excellent opportunity to drive high-visibility projects that allow Spotify’s licensing team, and the company more broadly, to move more quickly and achieve its strategic goals.

What you'll do

  • Scope, build, maintain, and improve data pipelines and technical infrastructures that are core to Spotify's mission.
  • Process terabytes of data from Spotify’s 100s of millions of users and billions of daily audio streams.
  • Work with pioneering data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms such as Scala, Scio, Java, Flink, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Improve data quality through testing, tooling and continuously evaluating performance.
  • Manage externally and internally facing data APIs
  • Work with other software engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers, such as product owners, to build solutions and gain novel insights.
  • Gain deep insight into the mechanics of the music industry.

Who you are

  • You are passionate about improving and building distributed data pipelines
  • You have 3+ years of demonstrated ability building high-volume/business-critical, distributed services in Java or Scala that ingest data across multiple sources
  • You have strong coding skills for analytics and data engineering (Scala, Java and Python)
  • You are knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques
  • You have an understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
  • You have experience building backend services
  • You are familiar with current data engineering practices and are curious about new technologies that help derive insights and value from data
  • You care about quality and know what it means to ship high quality code
  • T-Shaped is a plus. You have experience in data science, front end or data visualization
  • You have served as the technical lead for sophisticated software development projects and mentored junior engineers
  • You tackle loosely defined problems and thrive when working on a team which has autonomy in their day to day decisions
  • You have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a relevant field of studies.
