Senior Backend Developer Job Description

This is a full-time position in Asheville, NC

Responsibilities

  • Be involved and participate in the overall application lifecycle

  • Collaborate with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new applications

  • Write high quality source code to program complete applications within deadlines

  • Perform unit and integration testing before launch

  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing

  • Troubleshoot and debug applications

  • Evaluate existing applications to refactor, update, and add new features

  • Develop technical documents and handbooks to accurately represent application design and code

  • Taking lead on large projects while providing direction to junior backend developers on the project team.

  • Ability to mentor junior\mid-level backend developers.

  • Recording data and reporting it to proper parties, such as stakeholders or leadership.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a backend developer

  • Experience in designing and building applications

  • Understand the application development lifecycle

  • Ability to program in at least Python, Javascript, or NodeJS

  • Familiarity with front-end languages such as HTML, JavaScript and CSS

  • High level understanding of SQL

  • In-depth knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools

  • A team player with excellent communication skills

  • Ability to convey information to non-technical colleagues concisely

  • Ability to collaborate inter-team and cross-team

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability

  • Great attention to detail and time-management skills

Qualifications

  • College diploma, or a university degree, in the field of computer science and/or 5+ years equivalent work experience

  • Excellent written, oral, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Highly self-motivated and directed

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Employee has an individual responsibility for knowledge of and compliance with laws, regulations, and policies

  • Compliance is a condition of employment and is considered an element of job performance
