Job Description Summary: As a Data Engineer at Green Plains, you will develop, create, and modify data engineering applications software or specialized data pipeline utility programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies and technology service providers that will improve the business. Provide data architectural direction and oversite to create a holistic view of the data strategy, data processes, and data assets.
- Develop new and maintain existing data pipelines and automations focused primarily on the needs Trade and Risk department reporting and analytics
- Serve as a data entrepreneur leading the transformation of historical data structures and business data, extract meaning out of data, and create an enterprise data model
- Develop and implement repeatable processes that drive consistent and sustainable reporting and descriptive analytics workflows and support data literacy for analytics practitioners.
- Creates and supports ad hoc reports, dashboards, visualizations and interactive applications that support data-driven decisions.
- Research and properly evaluate sources of information to determine possible limitations in reliability or usability
- Adhere to all established procedures, policies and safety rules as outlined by the Company
- Perform all other assigned tasks and requirements as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance/Accounting, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years IT experience, with a preference for breadth of domains, technologies, and roles, with depth in data governance, modeling, management, and integration.
- Highly experienced in working with SQL data sources (Primarily MS SQL Server). Skilled at database design, development, and optimization.
- Proficient in Python data scripting, ETL/ELT orchestration, and data wrangling.
- Self-driven to continuously learn new skills and find creative solutions
- Ability to analyze and produce ad hoc reports and/or visualizations. ( MicroStrategy experience is ideal, but translatable skills in other technologies such as Power BI, Tableau, Sisense will be considered )
- Ability to challenge conventional technology wisdom.
- Strong background in process optimization, control, and improvement
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and consensus-building skills with business and technical groups.
Preferred:
- Experience in commodities and trading
- Data analytics programming such as in Python or R
- Experience with cloud database and storage technologies.
- Software engineering background – Python web-apps, C# are part of our environment
- Experience with DAG orchestration technologies. io preferred but not mandatory
- Experience in risk and compliance
