Summary:
We are currently seeking a talented Senior Data Engineer for the San Diego Headquarters.
The candidate selected for this position will collaborate and support all departments across the company, from Product to Marketing, Technology to Support. They will work with existing and new technologies as we undergo a period of optimization of existing services, and design and build new solutions that rely on advanced database technologies, including machine learning.
Within both a project-based and Agile development framework, the Senior Data Engineer will be engaged in all phases of the data management lifecycle. This includes gathering and analyzing requirements, collecting, processing, storing, securing, and archiving data. This role will develop and maintain technical systems for data reporting and technical solutions utilizing emerging technologies. The Data Engineer will partner with the business to ensure data management solutions align to business objectives.
DecisionLogic is a leader in the area of Financial Technology and provides a Software-As-A-Service platform for customers around the world. Experience modelling financial data is a definite plus in this industry, as will be any experience in credit, banking, scoring, text-parsing and categorization. Understanding and being able to build data warehouses and fast search solutions is important. Experience with, and an ability to grow into advanced machine learning systems is also required. Experience with multiple types of APIs and web services, including XML and REST/JSON will be a plus.
Languages: T-SQL is an absolute must, as our systems are built on Microsoft SQL Server. We can be more flexible on the additional technical skills that we move to, but expect to continue to use SQL for a long time. We expect to move toward NoSQL and other Big Data solutions. We have used R, Python and TensorFlow for machine learning and would like to do more in that area. We also leverage Azure for cloud services, so experience in that area would be important to hit the ground running.
The Data Engineer will be adept at both R&D and actual hands-on development. This person will be responsible for bringing data concepts from initial research and development, through proof of concept, to personally developing minimum viable products that perform to scale. This is a full stack role in the sense of being able to own a data-driven solution from concept to production.

- Build ETL pipelines to analyze, combine and organize raw data from different sources.
- Sometimes be involved in conducting complex data analysis and transform the result into visual report using data visualization tools.
- Prepare data pipelines to create features for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
- Collaborate with technology and product teams to build end to end AI powered products.
- Perform hands on coding and configuration to deliver solutions that impact multiple platforms and products.
- Debug complex issues spanning multiple systems.
- Harness the opportunities to build Intellectual Property within the team and for the enterprise.
- Develop and improve our CI/CD workflow tools and processes
- Evangelize industry best practices.
- Seek to understand our customer's needs and problems
- Learn new technologies and drive opportunities for adoption.
- Manage risks and issues as well as cross dependencies with other teams.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and client to address technical design and functional gaps.
- Partner with stakeholders to continuously upgrade Enterprise platforms as per industry standards and Technology stack latest offerings.
Other functions:
- Set self-initiated research objectives and exercise a wide latitude of discretionary judgment in exploring advances in artificial intelligence and applying innovative machine learning techniques to Clarilogic’s data capturing and mining business strategy.
- Collaborates with IT team in assessing and addressing the requirements for more automated, streamlined systems and for the data governance required for agile and responsive data manipulation
Required Experience:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL is required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of statistical techniques
- Understanding of a statistical programming package such as Python, R, TensorFlow - and other databases.
- Experience working with optimization, statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms including feature engineering, deep learning, boosting, and tree-based methods.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects and manage multiple priorities with minimum assistance.
- Expertise in parsing CSV, JSON, XML and similar file formats to cleanse/scrub data fields
- Expertise in loading & ingesting data into Google GCS (cloud storage) and BigQuery-like environments (datalake, data warehouse)
- Prowess in data science code source control, unit testing, ML model development and testing, and agile methodologies is paramount.
- Demonstrated applied technical knowledge in Python, SQL, Regular Expressions, RESTFul Methodologies, Git, and Continuous Integration/Deployment tooling.
- Must demonstrate experience with machine learning (ML) frameworks (sci-kit learn, tensor flow) and with different types of classifiers, hyper parameter tuning, etc.
- Experience with Financial modelling, Feature analysis, Scoring and Classification
- Craft scalable deployment strategies for model training and prediction.
- Experience with GCP machine learning in the cloud.
- Experience with reporting/visualization (Tableau, Looker) of machine learning model metrics.
- Experience with data pre-processing tools like GCP’s Dataflow
- Must be capable of clearly articulating multiplex technical issues to all levels of the organization.
- Experience creating software architecture documents, demonstrated efficiency influencing the cross-organizational teams to align with your direction.
- Ability to keep current technology trends and innovations and bring new techniques to the broad team and projects

- Preeminent problem solver with ability to quickly identify bottlenecks, potential problems in multi-process, multi-threaded code.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline with 4 years of job experience.
Preferred Education and Skills:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (Statistics, Economics, Math, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field) with at least 2 years of job experience
- Experience in developing scoring models in the risk management/finance industry
- Experience with database design and/or administration is preferred
- Ability to adapt to changes
Salary ranges from 90,000-120,000 a year, depending on experience
Hours and Location
Office hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Our office is located in San Diego, CA.
