To support strategic corporate goals and initiatives via a wide range of descriptive, predictive, statistical, and advanced analytical techniques. To prepare various sources and structures of data for use in statistical analysis and modeling. To understand analytical needs from business areas and translate them into technical approaches for analyses that result in improved business outcomes. To translate technical concepts and findings back into business context, assisting with, suggesting, and presenting analytically based recommendations. To follow and promote best practices around the stewardship and governance of organizational data assets. To provide technical support, expertise, collaboration, and mentorship to other analytical roles within the organization.
Understand insurance principles, operations, and domains, translating specific business needs into analytical concepts and approaches. Explore and analyze data to discover and develop solutions that address those needs, in support of improving corporate business outcomes relating to operating performance, sales performance, and customer experience. Iteratively collaborate with business partners and Data Analytics team members to keep analytical work informed, relevant, and focused.
Gather, create, and prepare large, complex, multivariable datasets for use in support of the historical interpretation, description, evaluation, and prediction of various metrics and outcomes. Regularly perform a variety of iterative transformation, manipulation, cleansing, and blending of internal and external data as required prior to and during its analysis. Refactor and refine processes for data preparation and wrangling to be transparent, efficient, and reproducible. Provide peer review of queries and scripts developed by other team members.
Perform in-depth profiling and exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify potential relationships, redundancies, correlations, and anomalies within data, modifying the dataset appropriately to account and control for any such findings. Carry forward key insights surfaced for context throughout more advanced modeling that follows. Enrich modeling datasets with additional features derived from available attributes, as well as those from other available data sources, using a variety of feature engineering techniques.
Required: Bachelor's degree required, with Master's degree preferred, preferably in data analytics, data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, information systems, or other technical fields. Equivalent experience may be considered. Minimum five years of experience as a data analyst, in an equivalent position, or working directly with data to analyze and solve business problems required. Other relevant work or internship experiences may be considered together with education attained. Proficiency with SQL, relational databases, machine learning tools/platforms, coding languages, and data visualization required. Willingness to pursue continuing job-related training and education required.
Preferred: Experience preparing and analyzing property/casualty or life/annuity data structures and processes strongly preferred. Experience with software for data cleansing, standardization, matching, profiling, and data quality preferred. Designations of Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA), Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), Associate in Insurance Data Analytics (AIDA), Certified Insurance Data Manager (CIDM), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), or related certification preferred.
