SummaryThe Assessment, Technology and Information Department develops and delivers data-focused solutions to support continuous improvement and informed decision making. We must ensure timely, accurate data for all stakeholders and decision-makers across the district.
The Data Engineer will be responsible for improving the district's data infrastructure to support critical decisions made by stakeholders. This position will design and maintain data warehouses, and build sustainable data pipelines between the warehouses, select information systems, and various reporting and analysis tools. This position will also be responsible for coordinating data governance across the Assessment, Technology and Information Department and other instructional, programmatic and policy departments.
RequirementsEDUCATION LEVEL: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, database management, development, or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Three years of experience in database design, architecture and ETL pipeline development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires eye-hand, mind-eye coordination, constant repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent keyboarding is required, as well as the ability to sit for long periods of time.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to think logically, interpret, and diagram complex data processing in programs. Ability to understand and interpret statistical results. Extensive knowledge of relational databases and database languages, such as SQL. Extensive knowledge of programming languages, such as PowerShell or Python. Ability to connect data from a variety of databases and sources. Ability to verify the accuracy of large data files and analyses. Ability to solve complex problems. Experience with business intelligence tools and data visualization such as Tableau preferred. Attention to detail, takes initiative, and is organized. Strong collaboration skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the ATI Department.
Essential Functions & Duties- Create and troubleshoot ETL (extract, transform, and load) scripts in scripting and programming languages that process data across systems, including the district's student information system.
- Proactively monitor data pipelines for completeness and accuracy, communicating with impacted stakeholders to resolve issues when they are identified.
- Maintain the district's data warehouses and reporting platforms in partnership with vendors.
- Develop, test, and maintain database architectures to ensure data integrity standards are met.
- Develop and maintain a data governance process for data warehouses to ensure all tables, fields, and ETL pipelines are well documented and source systems have clear owners and lines of accountability.
- Maintain the district's data dictionary for key data elements describing the contents, format, and structure of the data warehouses and the relationships between their elements.
- Develop SQL queries, research-ready datasets, and dashboard-ready database views for reporting and analysis.
- Respond to requests from data team to resolve any issues related to integration failures or errors.
- Support in identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Salary Schedule2021-2022 Employment Contract (Professional 2) Salary Schedule - Level Y, starting at $66,072.56
