Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Data Scientist for a key role in its Digital Practice. We are looking for a creative problem-solver that is motivated by the desire to deliver innovative, efficient and sustainable solutions with improved business outcomes. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work on leading edge digital technologies.


Working in the Decision Support Center of Excellence and our delivery practice, you will provide technical guidance in the development of data science-based solutions that deliver clear value for our clients. You have deep technical knowledge and a history of assisting organizations create solutions using Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning, Data Science technologies, including modeling and algorithms.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Machine Learning/ Advanced Analytics technologies to both internal Hatch teams and external Hatch clients
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with internal Hatch stakeholders and external clients to ensure models & results are well understood and incorporated into their business processes
  • Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Identify, interpret and communicate meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources to clients and internal interdisciplinary teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve data collection and management procedures
  • Select the most appropriate Machine Learning methods for specific applications, validate and deploy data analytics models to achieve business results
  • Demonstrate thought leadership through company blogs, articles, white papers, conference presentations, etc.


You bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent from an accredited University
  • 5+ years of experience developing and applying innovative data-driven models in industrial and business settings
  • Experience in quantitative analysis / research of large, complex data sets
  • Excellent knowledge and experience applying machine learning techniques and algorithms such as k-NN, LSTM, Naïve Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, Neural Networks, multivariate analysis (PCA/ PLS), etc.
  • Excellent scripting and programming skills in common data science analytical/programming tools (e.g., Python, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Comfortable with common industrial data sources (e.g., Time Series Historians, SQL Databases)
  • A keen interest in creating innovative solutions to solve challenging industrial problems
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • The ability to build relationships and effectively influence colleagues, clients and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • An interest and curiosity in industrial processes, like mining, metals, power generation, etc.


The following is considered an asset:

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, GCP, MS Azure)
  • Experience with MLOps
  • A postgraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or another quantitative field
  • Experience in optimization and development of scheduling algorithms in industrial settings
