The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

3M is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Corporate Research Systems Lab (CRSL) to develop scalable, Data Systems. As part of an agile team, you will enable applications in diverse markets including healthcare, energy, manufacturing, personal safety, transportation, electronics, and consumer

As a Data Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Being part of a core team researching and adopting latest the cloud based data technologies from end-to-end (data ingestion to consumption).
• Developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines that will ingest, transform, and distribute numerous data streams and/or batches
• Developing and establishing data management frameworks to prevent data lakes from becoming data swamps.
• Developing and maintaining a CI/CD pipeline that manages and deploys data pipelines, data infrastructure and data artifacts as code.
• Advising, consulting, mentoring and coaching 3M businesses, data scientists and data consumers / users on data standards, pipeline development, data storage, normalization and consumption.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university in a science or engineering discipline
• One (1) year of professional experience as a data engineer, software engineer, data analyst or data scientist in a private, public, government or military environment
• One (1) year of hands on development with frameworks such as Python, C++, C#, Java, Javascript , Scala in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms
• Hands on experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with AWS cloud computing services and infrastructure developing data lakes and data pipelines leveraging multiple technologies such as AWS S3, AWS Glue, Elastic MapReduce, etc. and awareness of considerations for building scalable, distributed systems.
• Experience with stream-processing systems: Amazon Kinesis, Spark, Storm, Kafka etc.
• Ability to deal with the ambiguity of early-stage scouting and evaluation of new opportunities and the flexibility to change direction as additional information becomes available
• Individuals should display leadership, excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation) networking skills, self-motivated and self-directed

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Location: Maplewood, MN or may consider remote U.S. work location
