Oncology Data Science Platforms
The Oncology Data Science – Data, Analytics, and AI Platforms (ODSP) team comprise multiple groups across the Cambridge UK, Boston MA, Gaithersburg MD, and Munich DE sites. ODSP develops technology, software, and data infrastructure to advance our Oncology data science. Our vision is to evolve data science into a driver of innovation within Oncology. We do this by creating a strategic culture that values our data as a true business asset, organizing our data so that it’s accessible and easy to find, integrated, and re-usable for Humans & AI, and building the best data computational tools to support scientific decision making.
What you’ll do
As a Data Engineering Specialist you will help us help us create AI / ML ready datasets from Petabytes of raw data and meta-data by designing and implementing FAIR and scalable data supply chains for our cross-omics and imaging Translational Medicine data. You will use your in-depth technical understanding and expertise to automate the integration of different data-sources into a coherent flow and to build new data extraction, transformation and loading processes in Production. As part of a cross-functional team of science, data and technology experts you will shape our FAIR data vision by creating advanced data capabilities and bringing in innovative ideas and novel technology approaches to rethink the way we manage, treat, handle and govern data.
Responsibilities:
Establish a fully automated and coherent (meta)data flow across multiple systems
Enable full lineage trial of (meta)data being moved, processed, analyzed etc
Build automatic data quality/ sanity checks into data flow; Perform system & data testing
Develop and build systems and architectures for ETLs
Build algorithms to support data normalization and result calculation
Understand and apply FAIR data principles
Strong adherence to compliance & regulatory environments.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential for the role:
Computer Science, Engineering, or Bioinformatics (Master level) plus 5 years relevant experience
Good programming skills (experience in Python preferred)
An ability to interact with various data sources, both structured and unstructured (e.g. HDFS, SQL, noSQL)
Experience working across multiple scientific compute environments to create data workflows and pipelines (e.g. HPC, cloud, Unix/Linux systems)
Understanding of the FAIR data principles and how they apply to the delivery of integrated X-Omics solutions.
Desirable for the role:
Web based frameworks (e.g. Django)
Data structure servers, caches, message brokers (e.g. Redis)
Experience modelling data and information for graph/network representation,
Experience of working with metadata models, controlled vocabularies and ontologies
Expertise with biological/health data, especially NGS and other ‘omic technologies
Ability to understand, map, integrate, and document complex data relationship and business rules
Familiarity with data quality, cleaning and masking techniques.
