Job description

This role is located at our head office in Bar Hill, Cambridge with the opportunity for hybrid working.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our R&D Data Science Team, within our Shared Services function. As part of the Data Science team you’ll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across Global R&D to ensure robust data processing and analysis. Now is an exciting time as we expand our IoT (Internet of Things) offering through servitisation, giving you the means to inform fundamental business decisions through analyses of cradle-to-grave technical and commercial data.

This role will mean you are exposed to a wide range of challenges from the various teams. As Data Scientist you will offer expertise and guidance while collaborating on projects, providing insights and analysis of data in a clear and concise manner. Teams will typically offer real world data, so you should not be phased by sparse, noisy, incomplete data in a range of formats such as numeric, text, time series and images.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across the business to champion the use of good data practices during decision making
  • Follow an Agile approach to work as a member of the Data Science team, responding to ad-hoc requests
  • Analyse complex data sets from across the company to provide novel insights and actionable results
  • Build and manage the tools that global R&D can use to process, view, and analyse technical and commercial data
  • Engage with and generate machine learning platforms to drive more efficient experimentation and derive more knowledge from the data we collect
  • Keep up to date with emerging trends in data science and machine learning and bring new ideas to the team

About you

Skills

Our ideal candidate is someone who is keen to learn and grow your knowledge and capabilities, within a supportive and diverse environment. We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes:

  • A degree or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering) or equivalent
  • Able to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technically complex information to a wide range of audiences.
  • You should be confident engaging stakeholders and capturing requirements
  • Self-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong technical skills in programming languages such as Python, R and SQL
  • Demonstrated experience in developing machine learning models and building and managing data infrastructure and tools with experience in data cleaning, processing, analysis, and statistical modelling
  • The ability to effectively manage multiple work streams across different projects following an agile framework
  • Competent in version control using Git and GitHub

If you don’t meet every requirement but still think you’d be a good fit for this role don’t be discouraged. Most important to us is finding someone who works with a collaborative mindset and team mentality. Someone who contributes ideas and challenges assumptions while demonstrating a genuine interest, empathy and appreciation for other ideas. Our successful candidate will have a desire to continuously learn and grow and will take ownership for delivering both personal and team goals.
