They cultivate a collaborative, supportive environment where every one of their people can explore big ideas, and bring passion, ambition and entrepreneurial spirit to everything they do.

About the Job

As a Data Science Team Lead, you will be leading and coaching a team of data scientists to use global data from the largest, real-time fraud detection platform to craft solutions for the enterprise customers and deliver against internal, strategic projects. Your experience with machine learning, fraud and technology will lead to immediate real-world impact in the form of lower customer friction, reduced fraud losses and, as a result, increased customer profitability. You will lead by example and retain hands-on data science responsibilities, including delivery of high-impact models that your team can learn from. You will promote and maximise the value of our data by collaborating with internal product, engineering and customer-facing account teams, plus external business leaders and risk managers. The comprehensive solutions that you and your team build will go head-to-head against some of the most motivated attackers in the world to protect billions in revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Lead and coach a team of data scientists, supporting their day-to-day delivery and career growth.
  • Consulting: Scope, plan and deliver customer-focused projects including proof of values, go lives, optimisations and custom models
  • Modelling: end-to-end delivery of complex models from design and feature engineering through to productionisation. Models will benefit from millions of rows of data and thousands of data points from the ThreatMetrix Digital Identity Network plus data feeds from the customers (in-depth knowledge of sklearn, graph analysis, pyspark, tensorflow and LUA are all desirable)
  • Best Practice: Develop and maintain clear best practice guidelines which enable the team to further scale and grow (including code review, version control and model governance)
  • Innovation: Inspire research that further improves capabilities within the team and ensure timely delivery of web-app tools that can be used by the wider department (knowledge of docker desirable)
  • Customer focus: Demonstrate a professional and customer-centric persona when interacting directly with customers via phone, e-mail, and chat
  • Presentation: Clearly explain complex patterns of behaviour using data and models in a simple manner to non-technical audiences, including skilful use of model interpretation techniques
  • Collaborate: Collaboration with ThreatMetrix teams including Products, Engineering, Sales and your colleagues to continually share and redefine best practices and help shape and improve the company's products and data

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage, lead and promote a team of 3-5 data scientists, ensuring that their delivery is on track and that they are motivated and grow in their roles
  • Use your strong knowledge of Python, SQL and machine learning to deliver insight and models which will help capture evolving fraudster behaviours – either directly or via the genuine customers they attempt to socially engineer
  • Scope, plan, and track progress of delivery against team deliverables, including optimisations, custom models, automation of tasks and strategy optimisation
  • Stay ahead of industry trends by continuously thinking of new ways to apply the tools, data and solutions to customer problems such as scams or money mules. Inspire the team to think outside the box and pitch research ideas that translate to value for customers
  • Enable your team to apply curiosity and problem-solving skills and help transform uncertainty into value-add opportunities
  • Use your strong attention to detail and ability to craft a story through data, delivering industry-leading presentations for external and executive audiences
  • Leverage BI tools to identify and respond to anomalies and emerging industry trends (e.g. SuperSet, PowerBI)
  • Build an extensive knowledge of cybercrime and become an SME – account takeover, scams, social engineering, Card Not Present (CNP) fraud, money laundering and mule fraud etc.
  • Promote the team by writing blogs, representing the team at conferences
  • Employ your multi-tasking and prioritisation skills to excel in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing customer priorities
