The Next Gen team is seeking a Big Data Engineer to help architect and build our cloud data platform. This is an exciting greenfields role with the opportunity to be involved in building a new foundational data capability for the group right from the beginning. In this role you’ll have exposure to several teams helping them to build the foundations for our data integration, analytics and machine learning products.
You are a data engineering expert with strong software engineering skills.
You have strong experience with cloud data warehousing tools & data models, building batch & real-time data pipelines, knowledge of data analytics and quality automation strategies and love working with engineers & product managers to take data pipelines into production at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the development and implementation of end-to-end data assets & self-service data models across data integration, data warehousing and ML features of the HUB24 data engineering roadmap across internal analytics projects and external data products.
- Cultivate a data-driven culture, working to best practice architectural principles, standards, and guidelines and embedding these across the Group
- Where necessary implement proof of concepts for key projects or technologies and validate data integrations with on premise and cloud services and other 3rd party applications
- Look to continuously improve Technology processes & practices by identifying and developing shared processes, tools or libraries
- Understand the business, product and technical roadmaps across all IT value streams.
- Participate in planning sessions to ensure items are being sequenced and prioritised correctly across data projects
- Leverage your industry experience to provide thought leadership around how IT systems could be implemented or improved to solve business or technical challenge
- Ensure compliance and security is considered in all day-to-day operations, particularly focusing on data security by identifying risks and advising on appropriate data access controls, PII protections and data governance frameworks.
What you'll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering or equivalent and a minimum 5 years of experience in designing and building technology solutions
- Strong software engineering knowledge and hands on experience building end to end production grade data analytics pipelines in a cloud environment (GCP or AWS preferred).
- Hands on experience in building and designing data platforms that can manage integration, reporting and data science workloads
- Experience with Apache Spark or Databricks.
- Experience with data ingestion and/or data integration patterns & tools (Fivetran, Airbyte, Data Fusion etc).
- Experience with BI Tools (Superset, Yellowfin, Looker, etc) and Transformation Tools (DBT, Dataform, etc).
- Experience with data testing, data governance best practices and data security fundamentals.
- Strong domain knowledge of data modelling and ELT/ETL strategies (dataform or dbt experience highly regarded)
- Strong Python (Pandas, Numpy) and SQL knowledge a plus. Functional programming (Scala etc) experience is highly regarded.
- Excellent understanding of systems development within a formal Software Development Life Cycle methodology including sound experience in the Scrum agile framework
- Apply excellent skills to effectively communicate with staff at all levels
- Engender confidence at Senior Management levels
- Develop productive relationships with industry providers and other users
- Excellent management and organisational skills and the capacity to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines
