The opportunity

We are looking for several Data Analysts, to join our Data and Analytics (DnA) team in Canberra or Melbourne. The right person will have a deep interest in delivering data and analytics products, solutions and outcomes. They will be focused on understanding complex data, modelling it, and producing insight which can drive meaningful change.

They will be able to work in both product and project delivery teams, supporting data modelling for large analytical and transactional solutions, and in a strategic context – understanding the data held by an enterprise and identifying opportunities to transform.

Our Canberra practice is focused on supporting core government clients in embracing data-driven transformation. We assist by providing transformational strategy, architecture, business case development, data design, solution implementation, and ongoing support. Our teams include some of the best strategists, architects, delivery managers, analysts, data scientists, big data engineers, developers and consultants in the region.

This role is offered on a flexible full-time basis. We are looking for analysts with every level of experience, to support our fast-growing team. This role will be based in Canberra or Melbourne and will require the candidate to be an Australian citizen and/or capable of holding an Australian Government security clearance.

Your key responsibilities

• Analyse data requirements with our clients, and our team including Architects, Data Scientists and Business Analysts. Prepare data designs, data models, specifications, user stories, and requirements in both Agile and waterfall contexts.
• Work closely with senior stakeholders (both internal and external) to understand their business requirements and assist in identifying their challenges with data that can be addressed using various analytical techniques.
• Be able to clearly explain what the data and your analysis mean to both technical and senior business stakeholders.
• Develop data models and architectures and support their implementation in practice.
• Support the development of effective data governance frameworks which interact with data models and tools.
• Contribute to the continuous analysis, design, and implementation of large-scale data and analytics solutions for clients.
• Build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with clients including management teams, data engineers, analysts, project and delivery managers, and data scientists.
• Investigate and analyse complex data sets to produce insights, reports, and strategic and tactical recommendations for change.
• Be a part of a culture that focuses on delivering excellence for our clients and work with an awesome team of people to work with and access to cutting edge technologies.
• Develop dashboards, reports, and visualisations to support client needs and to enable the easy digestion of insight.
• Keep a track of trends, patterns and correlation in case of complex data sets.

Skills and attributes for success

We’re looking for people with a strong background in data analysis and modelling, who can take the insights they generate, communicate them effectively, and help to drive meaningful change. They should have:

• A background working as a data or insights analyst, or commensurate academic experience.
• Demonstrated experience using reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx and/or Qlik.
• Strong skills in SQL development, data modelling and analysis.
• An understanding of common data warehousing, management, archival, and structuring techniques.
• The ability to work autonomously and to deliver on commitments.
• A strong understanding of statistics and data analysis techniques.
• Experience delivering in an Agile context (such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean).
• Exposure to data / data environments / databases / large data sets.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery principles and methods.
• Strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong problem-solving experience.
• Exceptional communication, documentation and presentation skills.
• Exposure to data governance standards and requirements.
• Due to the nature of the client base you MUST BE an Australian Citizen

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Experience with data modelling in NOSQL contexts, such as graph, document, and semantic triple environments.
• Experience working with DevOps and testing frameworks and implementing solutions with automated deployment and testing pipelines.
• A strong understanding of the government data context.
• Experience in engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong consulting experience and background, including engaging directly with clients
• Experience in a delivery role on Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Big Data or analytics projects
• Strong skills in Python and/or R development.
• Experience working with Commonwealth government entities.
• Current Baseline clearance or above (non-mandatory: apply if you do not hold clearance)
