Job description

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related technical/engineering field
  • 3+ Years of experience driving complex, enterprise-wide analyses to unlock business insights
  • Intermediate to expert level knowledge of SQL and Python, as well as working with database architecture
  • Experience in solving common statistical problems such as classification, regression, and clustering analysis, etc.
  • Experience in constructing anomaly detection across a diverse set of metrics and hierarchies
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations and drive actions
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Job summary
The Global AWS People Analytics team is looking for a Data Scientist to reshape how the business thinks about its people metrics holistically.

The Data Scientist will come in and establish relationships across the business and HR to pinpoint specific business problems and people constraints and seek to provide insights to unlock further people development and growth for AWS as a whole. This is a unique opportunity to join the AWS business and help it shape its long term people strategy as it continues to pioneer in the cloud computing industry.

Key job responsibilities
  • Build up a framework of anomaly detection, enabling HR and business leaders to pinpoint specific strengths and opportunities.
  • Partner with AWS executives to provide detailed, thought provoking analyses on the most recent people related trends including but not limited to talent attraction, development, retention, and engagement.
  • Mentor data engineers, business intelligence engineers and business analysts on statistical methods and determining causation versus correlation.

This role can be based within 100 miles of any Canadian AWS Corporate location

The AWS People Analytics organization is the curators of people data for the industry leaders in cloud computing and are responsible for providing the right metrics and insights to help the business develop its employees and scale its workforce. With AWS being a pioneer in the cloud computing industry, we get to answer challenging questions that have never been encountered before. The work we do enables leaders to make industry-shaking decisions based upon insights we must generate. We also have a great responsibility to treat this data as sacred and be best in class with our data security principles.

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Operations Research, Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Proficiency in Python programming
  • Familiarity with AWS SageMaker is a plus
  • Experience in implementing machine learning models in production to support real-time inference is a plus
