About the role

As a Data Scientist at STATSports, you will play a pivotal role in developing state-of-the-art projects that leverage AI and machine learning to elevate our products to new heights. You will be at the forefront of innovation, creating cutting-edge solutions using data from our advanced GPS and IMU sensors. Your work will directly contribute to enhancing the performance, accuracy, and capabilities of our software, providing unparalleled insights and benefits to our clients. This role is based in Newry, Northern Ireland.

What you’ll do

• Develop and implement machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions using data from Electronic Player Tracking Systems (EPTS), specifically leveraging datasets from our GPS and IMU sensors, to enhance our sports-dedicated software products.
• Design, build, and maintain efficient ETL workflows to ensure data is properly extracted, transformed, and loaded for analysis.
• Analyse large datasets from EPTS to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that can drive sports decisions and improve athletes' performance.
• Conduct experiments and validate models to ensure they meet requirements and standards.
• Continuously monitor and refine models to improve accuracy and efficiency over time.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders, to integrate data-driven solutions into our products.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science, ML, AI, and relevant technologies to bring innovative solutions to the team.
• Occasionally work on internal business-related data analytics projects to support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

About you

You’ll need to have

• Degree or experience in a relevant Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
• Proficiency in Python is a essential.
• Proficiency using relational database technologies such as SQL and MySQL is a necessary.
• Proven experience in data science, ML, or AI roles, particularly in developing and deploying models in a production environment.
• Familiarity with ETL processes and tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets.
• Experience in retrieving, analysing and visualizing large datasets from cloud platforms i.e., AWS (DynamoDB), Azure or GCP.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
