The People Technology Team is looking for Data Engineer II to focus on developing, delivery and maintain People Data pipeline, powering People Insights, Data science for Expedia Corporate, and all the Expedia brands. The data ingestion team core goal is to enable data channels for a wider data-intensive service and applications. The Data Ingestion Pipeline is at the core of our People Tech Data strategy, it will support and enable the evolution of many others disciplines with direct impact to several organizational areas. The team will combine experienced, skilled, and bright minds to collaborate across other development teams.

Your main responsibility will be working with the team and our customers to design, and implement our next-generation data warehouse and Data Lake on AWS, in addition to maintaining and growing the existing People Data Business needs.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, build and delivery data ingestion pipeline primarily from Workday and other HR/Non-HR systems into EG Data Lake
  • Ensure People Team security policies and data protection guidelines are implemented across existing and new data ingestion pipelines
  • Work with the cross functional Product Managers, Engineers and Operations to design, develop, test and deploy data ingestion pipeline
  • Work with Team Lead to resolve data issues and drive capture of data needed by business customers
  • Be responsible for individual tasks and assignments
  • Implement best practices and standards as defined by the People Tech team
  • Participate in scheduling and on-time delivery of Data Pipeline team's work items
  • Have to build/extend data products in EG Data Lake to enable People Insights and Data Science
  • Will provide engineering leadership for our redesign and migration of the legacy HR data warehouse from MS SQL to EG Data lake
  • Have to build/extend toolsets, create/maintain batch jobs, and create systems documentation
  • Will influence large scale projects to set the future direction for People Data and Insights across Expedia
Who You Are
  • Bachelor degree in Information technology or computer science or a related technical field or equivalent related professional expreience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating large data platforms
  • 2+ years of experience with Java, Scala, or similar programming languages and experience in Maven, SBT, Spring framework
  • 3+ years leading data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies—Redshift, S3, EC2, and other data technologies
  • Specialist in SQL. Good understanding of Data Warehousing and ETL
  • Better Understanding of BigData Technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Hive, etc
  • Qubole, Airflow, Dreamio, Querybook, Presto/Trino Starbust knowledge is a plus
  • Significant experience with software engineering and data production environments
  • Excellent experience delivering production-quality data pipelines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills demonstrated ability to think strategically about data and technical challenges in an enterprise environment
  • Experience in implementing SDLC methodologies and working in Agile SCRUM
  • Background in business measurement, Human Resources, e-commerce, or a comparable reporting and analytics role
