Your key responsibilities
  • You will be part of a global R&D team that is supporting a broad range of DSM Biotech and Food innovation, plant improvement and digitalization projects across various Business Groups of DSM from R&D, through operations to business and marketing.
  • You will primarily work for projects with the DSM Food & Beverages group, with it is main segments in food enzymes, dairy cultures and savory ingredients, where digital technologies are key in the strategy to enhance ourselves as a solution provider.
  • You will develop and apply novel and established approaches for translating data into insights, using a broad set of data analytics methodologies, including ML/AI approaches.
  • You will work in multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with experts in data science, ICT, food application experts and related business functions. You develop deep understanding of business and user needs, translating business opportunities and pains into viable data analytics solutions. You iterate quickly, translating two-way between domain experts in the business area and digital experts, and always keep the business problem on top of your mind.

Your experience
  • PhD in a quantitative science, plus 3+ years of additional professional experience in applying data science in a food and nutrition business setting. Alternatively, a MSc degree with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a food and nutrition business setting.
  • Proven ability to translate science & business data and knowledge into actionable insights. You are actively searching for new ideas, easily understand problems presented by the business and readily implement workable solutions.
  • Proven experience in data engineering, data visualization and building of self-service analytics tools, plus skills in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Expert user of data analytics software and visualization tools (e.g. Python, Power BI, Spotfire) as well as SQL and noSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions (AWS preferred) and web application development.
  • Experience in industrial biotechnology or the food industry is a great plus.
  • Strong and proven capability to identify and build digital solutions that combine information from different existing use cases and data sources of the business, through application of advanced data analytics and ML/AI.
  • Strong communication and explanatory skills towards non-experts and stakeholders, able to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-national teams.
