We deliver data, analyses, transaction and strategic advisory services to energy companies, suppliers, traders, banks, investors and governments globally. The analyst department consists of five groups: E&P, Shale, Oilfield Service, Markets and Renewables. As an analyst you will collaborate frequently with our consultants, sales and marketing team.


The Role

Rystad Energy is seeking enthusiastic and skillful data analyst with strong abilities within data science and/or algorithm development and implementation to join our Analyst Team. We are constantly improving and expanding our coverage of energy transition effects and real-time data analysis, and these new roles will form integral pieces of this ongoing development. The foundation of our products is high volume of factual data combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools modeling physical and market mechanisms governing the global energy systems and commodity markets. In this round we are looking for three Data Analysts who will be key resources in the following research areas:

  • Modeling of the Global Energy Systems to complement products covering various aspects of the Energy Transition
  • Maritime trade flow research and nowcasting based on AIS data (ship positioning) focusing on short to medium-term trade of liquified natural gas (LNG)
  • Global real-time activity collection and oil demand modelling based on large sets of real-time data sources, including satellite imagery and toll-road passages

Responsibilities:


  • Translate client needs into technical requirements together with Product Managers and Analysts
  • Build systems for capturing, structuring and storing large amounts of relevant data, including building of SQL databases, daily data gathering and storing processes. Data gathering is often done through developing Python scripts for data gathering of publicly available information
  • Develop models and simulators using system dynamics, machine learning, multiple regression and other types of modeling techniques and statistical methods
  • Participate in the general research, product development and client facing activities of the respective product teams


Experience and skills:

We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong academic track record, analytical mindset as well as software development skills to strengthen our capacity within in-house modeling.

  • University degree (Master or Bachelor) within Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics or similar
  • Experience with and/or a strong interest in developing algorithms and scientific programming
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Python and/or C# is important
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database design and SQL programming is an advantage
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques is an advantage
  • Experience within one of the areas of energy systems modeling, commodity trading, AIS or oil demand modeling is a plus
  • Experience with and/or strong interest in applying data science to commodity markets is a plus
  • Proactive, independent, open-minded and creative
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, and strong multi-tasker
  • Good English skills, both verbal and written
  • A positive person with strong motivation to personally develop and contribute to the company’s development and growth
