ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF)
Advanced analytics and technological enablement are critically important to KeyCorp’s core business practices, as it impacts the daily operations of the bank. The Risk Modeling and Analytics group within KeyCorp is looking for a Lead Data Scientist to utilize software design principles to optimize and design infrastructure and best practices for modeling and automation. The primary responsibility will be to apply advanced statistical modeling and computer science techniques to develop, validate, modify and test modeling systems for specific business needs at an advanced level. All the software and analytical solutions will be implemented using cloud infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of software design techniques, underlying infrastructure and how they are impacted by technological capabilities. The candidate will also have a deep understanding of cloud interface and will be comfortable programming and engineering in the cloud environment. As part of the role, the candidate will need to engage with various modeling teams and interact with them on how to set best practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop, design, and/or leverage advanced modeling approaches, standard techniques for data inference and performance, and sophisticated statistical models
  • Perform complex data discovery utilizing AI and machine learning on large scale data lakes such as daily transaction data
  • Partner with business to provide meaningful insights and solutions for complex analytic needs
  • Use software design principles to develop production ready code
  • Good communication skills to work with modelers, business partners and stakeholders to gather knowledge and implement solutions
  • Identify and employ best practices
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree (or its equivalent) in statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics, data sciences, or other quantitative disciplines and at least 1-2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) and at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate use of one programming language between Python, R, SAS, and C++
  • Understanding and experience with software design principles, and object-oriented programming
  • Knowledge of software version control workflows and best practices (Git, Bitbucket, Github)
  • Experience in developing quantitative models using statistical (e.g., GLM models) and/or Machine Learning approaches (e.g. CARTs, NN)
  • Familiarity with optimization algorithms
  • Understanding of cloud architecture of one of the major cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Familiarity with automation systems such as Airflow and Google Scheduler
  • Track record of excellent time management and completion of complex projects
  • Impeccable integrity, strong accountability, sound judgment, and strategic vision
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with Consumer (Mortgage, Credit Cards, Student Loans, etc..), and Commercial (C&I, CRE) risk drivers and predictors
  • Understanding of drivers and predictors of default as well as knowledge of the banking sector in general, including emerging trends
  • Familiarity with Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) financial accounting standards
  • Familiarity with Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) process and standards
  • Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualizations platforms

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $85,000 to $100,000 annually depending on job-related factors such as level of experience.
