Lead Data Engineer

Tech Leads are responsible for improving and upkeeping a solid, scalable, and reliable data platform for all analyses and reporting. The client is a data-centric company where everyone is accountable for the success of their activities in a quantifiable way. As a senior member of the team, you will provide direction to other team members by overseeing the development, testing, and documentation of developed solutions, while fostering strong stakeholder relationships for ongoing business.

Tasks

Key Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for the ownership of the enterprise data warehouse, working closely with business experts to improve the data warehouse in order to have a single source of truth with coherent and reliable data for all company metrics.

Data governance:

• Creating single sources of truth for overlapping data, consumable by business users
• Implementing technical and business data validation rules
• Align with data scientists, analysts, product owners and business experts to accelerate their exploratory analyses and evaluate a later integration of such analyses into the data warehouse ETL
• Improve our best practices, ensuring a reliable and solid delivery process
  
  

Requirements

Critical Requirements

• Excellent communication skills for different audiences
• Proven experience in data requirement gathering and analysis, with a tech-agnostic approach
• Solid knowledge of Data Modeling (emphasis on Dimensional Modeling) and data warehousing
• Experience in modern BI systems including ETL/ELT development
• Experience processing significant amounts of structured and unstructured data
• Programming knowledge to clean and process data sets (e.g.: Scala, Java, Python, JavaScript, etc)
• Transparency and ability to establish long-lasting trusting and supportive relationships with the team and other stakeholders
• Knowledge in data mining, machine learning, and/or NLP is a plus, but not a requirement
  
  

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineering or similar role
• 3+ years of experience managing a project with a small (or bigger) team
• 3+ years of experience creating data sets, reports, and dashboards using PowerBI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools
• Experience managing client expectations and promoting alignment
• Strong SQL skills, namely T-SQL (knowing Snowflake is a plus)
• Fluency in Portuguese and English, written and spoken (mandatory)
• Knowledge of Pentaho Data Integration, Kettle or Apache Hop
• Experience with the AWS or Azure data stack
