Overview

InnovaSystems is looking for a talented, forward thinking Data Engineer for its Navy Readiness Reporting Enterprise - Business Intelligence (NRRE-BI) project.

The Data Engineer will join an active team with a great culture of collaboration!

In this role, you will work with the Architect, Data and Analytics Engineers, Business Analysts, Test and System Engineering teams, performing hands-on development for our enterprise data warehouse and BI analytics solution; a Cognos-based application that fuses US Navy readiness information from over one hundred sources into a single database structure.

The ideal candidate will possess a variety of current data engineering technology skills and be open-minded to learning new technologies and best practices.

You must be a self-starter and a great problem solver with a willingness to demonstrate your expertise, share it with others and learn new technologies as necessary.

This position may require providing technical and team leadership as well as mentoring others to support their development.

Primary Responsibilities

• Transforms data according to complex business rules using SSIS & T-SQL or Scala & Spark
• Responsible for database project solution structure, configuration management, source code, and documentation
• Responsible for taking lead on major development tasks, as well as mentoring and coaching of development peers
• Responsible for daily tasking, participating in scheduled team meetings, and assessment of requirements for database development needs
• Troubleshoot issues in an efficient and systematic manner to identify and resolve underlying causes as well as take a proactive approach to solving problems creatively using available resources

• Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems
• May guide the establishment of team norms and standards for coding and the development process

Required skills & experience

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Engineering (or related discipline) plus at least five years of experience related to programming with data structures
• Eight years of professional Database Development experience in lieu of a four-year degree acceptable
• 3 - 5 years of professional experience designing and building software applications in a modern object-oriented programming language like Java, Scala, or equivalent
• 3 - 5 years of professional experience with software development frameworks such as Microsoft .NET, Java J2EE, and/or Hortonworks ecosystem to include Spark and Hadoop
• Administering, designing, and developing database systems, preferably data warehousing solutions.
• Source control software, especially Git and Azure Repos
• SQL Server Database Development
• Shell scripting such as PowerShell, bash, or zsh
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to express ideas and design benefits/drawbacks to technical and non-technical audience.
• Ability to work in a team environment & demonstrate a pro-active attitude
