The successful candidate will be part of Peraton’s Civil and Health Sector that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) across a range of federal contracts engaged in all aspects of data science. As a Team Lead, you will develop, grow and manage a data science team supporting customer’s informatics activities. This includes guiding junior and seasoned data scientists in performing work to improve public health surveillance systems and optimize data collection, management and utilization strategies. You will also provide expertise to CDC data scientists and state and local stakeholders on new strategies and tools for communicating and disseminating data in order to improve decision-making and public health practices targeted to achieve public health missions. Specific task requirements include: •Provide data science expertise to improve the quality and impact of public health surveillance, research, and administrative data from design to dissemination
- Provide guidance on statistical models, methods, and tools to enhance data quality and impact
- Identify data sources to maximize data quality and access, including artificial intelligence (i.e., machine learning) and social media
- Collaborate with other Informatics and Information Technology professionals to develop and modernize existing systems through automation and other strategies
- Assess compliance with applicable national data standards, policies, and procedures
- Create or enhance data analytic methods and tools through available technologies to achieve desired results
- Develop scalable data methods and algorithms
- Provide data analyses to transform raw data into actionable information and interpret findings to technical experts as well as lay audiences, including the use of data visualization strategies and other communication tools
- Communicate methodologies and data findings through conference presentations, reports, and publications to help advance and advocate key public health objectives
- Develops data science-focused content for concept papers and competitive government contract proposals
- Identify data science talent internally and externally and establish appropriate career paths for team members
- Manage work load and allocations of data science team members
- Identify tools and skills required to effectively support the public health mission during the modernization of public health data surveillance
- Perform other duties as assigned
