The Role

A Data Scientist exists in the Marketing & Digital Data Area, an active squad member of ANZ’s Marketing Change Program – responsible for transforming how we deliver digital and direct interactions leveraging people, process, data and technology.

As a Data Scientist, you will undertake extensive data analysis to identify root causes to complex business problems and identify opportunities. You understand the power of data to generate quality customer insight, identify patterns & trends, and make decisions. You will apply your strong technical skills to source and interrogate data across a range of platforms and domains. Combined with your business acumen, you will provide expert actionable advice and creative solutions suitable for the current business landscape and challenges.

What a typical day might look like

• Address and solve complex business issues using large amounts of data
• Initiate, design and implement innovative trends in the field of data science
• Implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to import from existing data sources
• Uplift governance and quality of data and analytical models, standards and controls
• Uplift test automation capabilities to increase speed to market, quality and robustness of new data assets/models/insights
• Engineer/ prototype / industrialise data assets needed for analytics
• Align deep analytical expertise to drive business outcomes; Recommend pathways to optimise
• Build forensic capability to assure ANZ configurations are aligned to customer outcomes
• Build, maintain and optimise decision models to telegraph customer behaviours and impact to ANZ

What will likely be in your toolkit?

• Ability to breakdown complex business problems and analyse them by employing a variety of analytical techniques
• Background and experience in product, marketing or analytical roles, preferably within the financial services industry
• Analytical & problem-solving skills to understand the complexity of our data, and subsequently provide valuable insights
• Have a talent for crafting simple messages from complex information
• Hands-on knowledge and experience with tools and techniques used in data science, analysis, data manipulation and visualisation (e.g. SAS, SQL, Python/R or Tableau).
• Experience in advanced analytical modelling (e.g. supervised/unsupervised machine learning), and its use in business contexts.
• Analytical and inquisitive mindset to continuously improve the level of insights through strong customer lens.
• Strong ability to translate data insights into practical business recommendations
• Thorough approach to detail, ensuring a high level of accuracy
• You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
