Job Summary (Primary function)

As part of our continued investment in discovery research, we are currently seeking an outstanding scientific data engineer with proven experience extracting insights from complex biological and chemical data for drug discovery in a Biotech or Pharma R&D environment. Using a broad range of programming and scientific computing methods, the successful individual will enable data mining and pattern recognition across discovery biology with an emphasis on complex biological assays (e.g. high content imaging, HTS campaigns, compound profiling for lead optimization and structural biology).

The successful candidate will also function as a scientific and technical expert for the drug discovery organization with responsibility for scouting and developing and integrating new data technology into the drug discovery process. Expertise in scientific computing, modelling, data management, and programming is required.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Provide cross-departmental scientific leadership for data management and analysis.
• Develop and maintain tools for HTS compound annotation, data curation and analysis.
• Enable Structural Biology data flows and analysis.
• Enable new scientific insights through the analysis of large experimental datasets integrated with diverse biological and chemical data.
• Enable high content image analysis
• Contribute to strategic planning and implementation of preclinical data logistics.

Minimum Requirements

• PhD in Data Sciences or in a biomedical field with specialization in data sciences.
• 8+ years’ experience in scientific data engineering and scientific computing within preclinical pharmaceutical research.
• Advanced Linux system and data management skills, especially REDHAT Enterprise Linux.
• Advanced shell scripting skills including bash/tcsh/csh/zsh.
• Knowledge of AWS cloud platforms and other containerized systems such as VMWARE.
• Knowledge of crystallographic and CryoEM data processing pipelines and software including PHENIX, CCP4, CryoSparc and Relion.
• Oracle database development skills.
• Knowledge of other programming/scripting languages a plus (Python, VB.NET, ASP.NET, C#, Javascript, Java).
• A track record of success in contributing to and advancing early drug discovery programs to identify clinical candidates is preferred.
