Data Scientist

The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) is looking for a Data Scientist to join its team. This position can remote work up to five days per week with attendance at certain required in-person meetings. As a member of the business insights team within GOED, you will be called upon to promote a data driven culture and enable smarter business processes.

You will maintain an inventory of internally-generated data assets and identify opportunities for enriching those assets with external sources. You will collaborate with staff and partners to identify and correct methodology gaps in data collection and analysis. You will synthesize data into meaningful stories and actionable strategies. Daily activities may include preparing economic impact analyses of prospective tax incentives, meeting with program representatives to document and refine business intelligence requirements, and data discovery/data mining for targeted studies such as the social impact of an economic development program or policy shift.

What You Need To Know

• 
  Bachelor’s degree in a related field or two years relevant experience
• Expert in Microsoft Excel (e.g. vlookup, pivot tables)
• Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (e.g., regression, statistical tests and when each should be used)
• Experience querying databases using statistical computer languages (e.g., R, SPSS, Python, SQL)
• Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS, Matlab)
• Experience with Tableau and/or Salesforce Einstein Analytics
• Experience with Salesforce CRM
