Position Summary:

We are seeking a data engineer who wants to leverage their expertise in cloud-based data architecture, computing infrastructure and software development to help our team integrate multiple biological datasets and support our data warehousing, with the end goal of identifying new ways to treat human diseases. The candidate brings enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a deep-rooted desire to innovate in data science. This role is based in the vicinity of Cambridge UK and hybrid work arrangements will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define data architecture, set up and maintain cloud computing infrastructure for data analysis pipelines, helping to integrate diverse omic datasets
  • Support ongoing improvements in data warehousing and our underlying cloud-based systems architecture
  • Work collaboratively in small project teams, assisting development of new protocols and methodologies
  • Develop and deploy statistical models to assess databases for novel discoveries

Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in computer science, or PhD in genetics, genomics or other bio-related field
  • 5+ years of experience in biodata infrastructure development (ideally genomics), data management, and/or software engineering, in either industry or academic settings
  • Experience with the design and implementation of data architectures
  • Experience with the use and operation of cloud-based data systems and setting up new big data processing infrastructures (AWS cloud experience preferred)
  • .Capable of writing production-level code in Python, with limited need for oversight/review
  • Candidates with familiarity with (a) Working with biology/health datasets, especially genomics or other ‘omics’ (b) Competency in additional scripting or programming languages, such as R and C++, will be preferred
  • Ability to work successfully in a matrix environment, work collaboratively, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively
  • A high degree of energy, accuracy, and an attention to detail
