Muon is looking for a Software Engineer (Data Engineering) to join our mission software team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated versatile software/data engineer who is excited to build data pipelines, tools, visualizations, and cloud infrastructure to gain insight into Earth’s complex systems.
Have a passion for solving problems around and with data
Be part of the team that architects and develops Muon’s data pipelines and tooling that converts earth sensing and observations into actionable insights
Educate the organization on how to access and use Muon’s data
Build scalable systems to collect, ingest, index, store, present, and deliver data internally and to Muon’s customers
Deploy infrastructure and tools to workstations, on-premises datacenters, and cloud environments
Design superb visualizations and access tools for temporal and geospatial data
Collaborate with the satellite team to efficiently ingest and index collected data
Co-develop analytic methods and processing pipelines with Muon’s science team
Connect Muon’s data pipelines to our customers
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in data engineering, computer science, or related field
5+ years experience as a software engineer in a team environment
Strong programming experience in Python and one or more additional languages such as Go, Javascript, Java, R, Scala, Matlab, Julia, etc.
Experience selecting and deploying database technology based on specific performance and feature needs (SQL/NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB, etc)
Expertise in messaging/streaming infrastructures like MQTT, Kafka, Redis, etc, and visualizations using Grafana, Tableau, etc.
Knowledge of industry-standard data formats and schemas (ProtoBuf, YAML, JSON, etc)
Experience with cloud-native software development in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) using containers and kubernetes
Strong Linux fundamentals, and comfortable with Linux development and deployment environment
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week
AI/ML methods and infrastructure
Web interactive UI design (for data access and visualization)
IT and Information security (authentication, encryption)
Experience smoothly deploying continuously evolving data services to customers
