The Role

At BIG W, our ambition is to become a purpose-led digital retailer enabled by a great store network. Central to this ambition is the way we use data, analytics and insights to make better, more informed strategic customer, team and and business decisions and delivering automation and artificial intelligence capabilities to accelerate progress towards our ambition.

The Senior Data Scientist will lead the design and delivery of AI and Data Science solutions to solve business problems across a portfolio of BIG W opportunities.

Some key responsibilities will include:

• Enable the BIG W business to further unlock the rich value of our data and deliver exceptional experiences for our customers & team
• Engage with team members across BIG W and Woolworths Group to translate use cases to clear data science solutions
• Support the Data, Analytics & Insights Partners in the development, prioritisation and delivery of our strategic analytics roadmap
• Provide technical thought leadership in developing Artificial Intelligence and Data Science capabilities, including experiment design, recommendation systems, natural language processing, predictive modelling and optimisation methodologies to solve real problems and deliver tangible business value
• Design, implement and maintain standard frameworks for the development & maintenance of data science product used to shape customer and team experiences
• Leveraging your expertise in Python and/or R, ensure the technical accuracy and contextual relevance of data science deliverables throughout the team
• Oversee and coach junior Data Science & Analytics team members
• Evangelise the use of Data, Analytics & Insights capabilities, and coach cross-functional teams to understand where and when different techniques can create value
  

About You

In addition, you will:

• Experienced Data Scientist, with deep expertise in applying Artificial Intelligence and quantitative methods to solve business problems and deliver tangible results
• Deep understanding and passion for data, analytics and insights and how it can unlock real customer, team and business challenges
• A natural collaborator with a strong analytical mind-set you will be able to influence those around you with stakeholder management experience.
• Advanced level of competence in solving difficult problems, using data science (advanced analytical) techniques
