Job description

The data scientist will work closely with the Community, Communications and Marketing department and their business partners to conduct analyses and develop models to help drive business decisions. Utilizing their analytical, statistical and programming skills, they will collect, analyze and interpret large data sets in order to develop and recommend data-driven solutions to business challenges. A strong understanding of statistical modeling, data analysis and experimental design is required. Projects may include data mining, propensity modeling, survey analysis, custom segmentation development, market forecasting, market sizing for new products, product optimization, text analytics and digital analytics. The successful candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in diverse data sets and working with business partners to improve business outcomes.


Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for end-to-end insight creation.
  • Develop analytical solutions and recommendations to produce meaningful results.
  • Query, manipulate and manage large or diverse data sets in an organized manner with effective quality control and supporting documentation.
  • Gather model requirements, design experiments and analyses, build and deploy predictive models.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
  • Proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights.
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.
  • Strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods.
  • Experience using statistical software (SAS or SPSS).
  • Visualization experience with Excel, Tableau or Power BI is desired.
  • Experience with Python, Hadoop, Hive is desired.
  • Experience with SQL Server databases, T-SQL queries and ETL.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

Experience in marketing, economics, statistics, engineering, operations research or data analytics.

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years' experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years' experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Additional Information

  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Ability to interpret results and explain impacts to the business for consumption by leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to convey advanced statistical concepts to all levels of employees. Data visualization skills are required.


Working knowledge of the following concepts:

  • Data transformations (e.g. log transformation, standardization, normalization)
  • Univariate and Multivariate tests (e.g. t-test, non-parametric rank tests, ANOVA, MANOVA, ANCOVA, regression)
  • Statistical modeling (e.g. linear regression, generalized linear models, multivariate regression, ARIMA models, classical time series decomposition, mixed models)
  • Clustering (e.g. k-means, hierarchical clustering, Gaussian mixtures)
  • Dimensionality reduction (e.g. Principle Components Analysis, Discrete Fourier transform)
  • Classification (e.g. logistic regression, Support Vector Machine, neural networks, K-NN, naïve Bayes, decision trees)
  • Constrained optimization (e.g. Linear Programming with Excel Solver)


SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although part-time teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
