We are hiring a Data Science Manager.
Reporting to the Director, Advanced Analytics, you will play a lead role in the continued build-out of a portfolio of ML solutions and products that power algorithmic decision-making across a growing list of business functions and use cases. The team is responsible for multiple high-impact product streams (Personalization, Price & Promo Optimization, On-Shelf Availability, Linear Productivity, etc.), at varying stages of maturity, each supported by a dedicated, full-stack development team. You will manage one or more streams across the full development lifecycle and partner with the Enterprise Data, Platform, Business and Product teams to manage risks and dependencies, and ensure alignment with business objectives and goals. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader who can manage the full product lifecycle, quickly recognize and remove bottlenecks, drive continuous improvement and serve as a trusted partner to the business.

Job Description

• Build and lead a high-performing team of data scientists, engineers/developers and analysts in a hands-on technical capacity
• Translate business requirements into functional and technical requirements
• Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle for your portfolio of solutions
• Implement and monitor quality controls across the entire data/ML pipeline and support overall production model governance processes
• Create and manage the project/sprint/resource plans for your workstreams, ensuring delivery milestones are defined and tracked, and stakeholders regularly updated
• Design, develop, test, deploy and support ML solutions to meet business use case requirements
• Work closely with the business on defining measures of success, KPIs, refining solution requirements, and target state validation / UAT
• Continuous experimentation, measurement, and optimization/enhancement of solutions to drive operational efficiencies and value creation
• Develop strong cross-functional relationships with IT, Data, Product and Business leaders, to facilitate implementation and adoption of solutions
• Cultivate a culture of exploration and excellence; inspire your team to exceed expectations, challenge convention, and above all, realize their full potential
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to your team

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
• 7+ years industry experience in data engineering, data science, software development or a related role;
• 2+ years in a leadership role with cross-functional stakeholders
• Working knowledge of end-to-end ML lifecycle – ETL, design, prototyping, testing, deployment, monitoring/support, governance
• Proven experience applying machine learning in a retail context (ALS, reinforcement learning, ensemble methods, deep learning, regression, classification, etc.) and building and deploying ML models at scale
• Proficient/advanced level programming in Python/PySpark and SQL
• 3+ years working with big data platforms (Azure/ADLS, GCP, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, etc.)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Airflow, Bitbucket/Git, MLflow, Jenkins); comfortable working in an agile development environment
• Strong customer focus, ownership, and orientation for learning
• Exceptional interpersonal skills; equally comfortable and effective communicating with users, other technical teams and business leaders
• Impeccable attention to detail
