Virginia Farm Bureau's Information Services department, located in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a highly collaborative, team orientated Data Engineer. This position is responsible for enterprise data integration and reporting. As Virginia Farm Bureau's new Data Engineer, you will showcase your talents by the following:


  • Build, develop, and manage SQL Server relational databases using data warehousing best practices
  • Design architecture, map business rules and processes into technical solutions
  • Hands-on ETL development. Review ETL load jobs coded by others for consistency and quality
  • Gather business requirements to conceptualize, design and deliver ongoing production reports and visual dashboards
  • Mine and manipulate data from the enterprise data warehouse, along with other disparate sources, to provide data reporting for business operational reports and analyses using a variety of analytical tools, including but not limited to: SQL, SSRS, SAS, Power BI, Excel, or related BI software
  • Ensure that proper controls are in place so that reports are accurate and timely; resolve any issues/errors
  • Work closely with the team to translate raw enterprise data into meaningful analyses and insights
  • Collaborate with team on developing a consistent approach to BI reports/dashboards used throughout the company; provide suggestions to improve reporting best practices and work as part of team responsible for ongoing process improvement efforts
  • Support the ongoing development of the enterprise data warehouse through the identification of new data sources and continued validation of existing data sources
  • Support the day-to-day performance, maintenance, and monitoring of SQL environments and interfaces

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or related program or equivalent work experience in Data Warehouse development/Business Intelligence
  • Experience with SQL Server Platform (SSIS, SSRS & SSAS)
  • Experience in data warehousing and ETL development (T-SQL, PLSQL, and/or SQL scripts)
  • Experience with intelligence products (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Ability to compute, analyze and interpret complex and disparate data to produce relevant and consumable reports, dashboards, etc.
  • Self-starter with proven ability to stay organized and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities without sacrificing quality
  • Experience with cloud computing
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies related to Business Intelligence and data warehousing
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and self-awareness
  • Detail oriented and committed to accuracy, data integrity, and quality
  • Strong sense of customer service for internal customers
