The Core Search & Recommendations team at Shipt is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help build the next generation of our e-commerce search engine. Our team creates internal analytical tools as well as customer facing machine learning models that enable product search and discovery. Our ideal candidate will be able to develop critical insights into our search engine data and make strategic recommendations on key opportunities, as well as grow out their skillset in the modeling space.
We’re seeking a strong data scientist candidate that is comfortable pulling and aggregating data from multiple large sources, building out reporting capabilities, defining KPIs, conducting A/B/n tests, and is interested in experimental design.
This role can be located 100% remote (within the continental United States), or in one of our offices located in San Francisco or Birmingham.
Responsibilities:
Ownership of experimental design & implementation for core shopping initiatives
Measure impact from A/B/n tests on new search & recommendations algorithms
Develop deep expertise and knowledge around Shipt’s data sources
Collaborate with other members of the Data Science and Data Engineering teams on ways to approach problems, audit code, and share new techniques
Work closely with functional team leaders to explain your findings and support reproducibility
Develop systems and techniques for model evaluation in both offline and online settings
Stay up to date on developments in industry and academia and contribute to its advancement
Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years of industry experience in statistical modeling, design of experiments (DOE), A/B/n testing, and big data analytics & insights.
Hands-on experience manipulating databases with millions to billions of records
Comfortable with a database query language (SQL, BigQuery, SnowFlake, etc.)
Ability to write code in Python
Strong in both technical and business acumen
Experience with a data visualization tool (Tableau, Chartio, D3, Spotfire, Power BI, etc.)
Ability to communicate results with non-technical stakeholders
Pluses:
Prior industry experience with product search engines for E-commerce
Masters or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other related STEM degree
Experience or working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals
Familiarity with on-demand and/or multi-sided marketplaces
