Summary:
Develop and design standards and guidelines for database schemas, logical transformations, external data interface, data loading plans, and data maintenance plans. Document and communicate planning and execution of database designs. Define and record definitions and process maps of data pipelines and schemas. Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms. Builds dashboards, screens, and reports. Create pilot tools and applications to collect, store, and transform data for reporting and analysis. Plan and develop complex programs and algorithms on cloud platforms to extract, transform, and load data. Plan and organize the design of user interface and business application prototypes for data collection, reporting, and analysis. Create test scripts and reporting templates for analyzing big data. Lead in defining and standardizing metrics in the Dexcom’s Production System.

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Establishes database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy. Documents and communicates database design. Evaluates and installs database management systems. Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms. Builds windows, screens and reports. Assists in the design of user interface and business application prototypes. Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment. Provides expertise in devising, negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database. Adapts business requirements, developed by modeling/development staff and systems engineers, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application.

  • Applies basic technical understanding with the knowledge to develop process and design experiments. Possesses theoretical knowledge, but is learning the industry and requirements of applied science. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies.


Scope:

  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency. Works on problems of basic scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of data factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.


Judgement:

  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Normally receives instructions on all work and work output it supervised.


Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.


Workplace Type:

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understanding of relational database and data warehouse architect and design.
  • Familiar with SQL and design and implementation of stored procedures.
  • Experience in life cycles of software projects.
  • Develop and maintain source code for database and ELT projects. Ensure that projects build successfully in a continuous integration environment.
  • Use version control and source code management on database pipelines, web application projects, and data analysis scripts.
  • Work with cross-functional departments to define requirements, compliance documentation, test plans, test records and release implementation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including R&D, Operations, Quality Assurance, Contract Manufacturers, and other stakeholders to facilitate data access in terms of reporting, analysis systems, and data integration.
  • Develop dashboards and visual reports using data visualization software such as Tableau, Google Charts API, OSI PI Vision, and open source programming packages
  • Create, maintain, and enforce internal development processes that align with industry best-practices and medical regulations alike.


Required Qualifications:

  • Fluent in SQL Server 2012+.
  • Fluent in reporting and query tools and practices.
  • Familiar with Agile methodology and Structured Problem-Solving techniques.
  • Exposure to test-driven development and experience with all test phases.
  • Working knowledge with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques, and other tools, such as Jira, Jama, and Confluence.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Creative problem solver with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and apply debugging techniques on problems.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience with statistical and analytical programming language such as Python or R.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of other data platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft Azure, Google Big Query, and Snowflake.


Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%

Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
