MITRE’s Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization works across US Treasury, Commerce, and the Veterans’ Administration. These agencies affect every household in the country. Our job is to make them more effective.

As the operator of the agencies’ Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), we have long-standing relationships across the IT, business, and research organizations for each agency. We work directly with the government’s own source data, and our projects are inherently multidisciplinary. You will grow technically, and you will be continually challenged with interesting problems. Most importantly, you will have both the opportunity and responsibility to make sure your work yields practical effect for the general public.

Responsibilities Include:

We are presently seeking an early-career data engineer for the US Treasury program. Our analytical work spans multiple lines of business, and our data pipelines match. The data engineer supports all with

Data (and metadata) pipeline automation - ETL through machine learning model Application deployment automation Database selection, design, and optimization Design of data management and governance practices

You will work with data scientists, software engineers, domain experts, and other data engineers on projects to detect signal in the government’s data and then to build applications that use it.

Basics qualifications:

• Eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

• BS in computer science, math, statistics, operations research, or related technical field

• 5+ years of professional experience

Required Qualifications:

• Be fundamentally driven by the goal of improving government performance

• Eagerly and constantly improve and broaden their technical and communications skills over time

• Demonstrate objectivity, technical excellence, and creativity

• Communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences

• For our early-career data engineers, we expect:

• Demonstrated proficiency with large-scale RDBMS Demonstrated proficiency with Java or Python Demonstrated proficiency with automated test pipelines

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with:

• RDBMS, MongoDB, Neo4j

• Hadoop ecosystem

• Python, Java, and R

• Apache NiFi and Airflow

• Docker

• Git (with GitLab Runner).
