Data Scientist II

Job description

Navient's Data Scientist II is in charge of designing and implementing an infrastructure that data scientists can use to execute on machine-learning projects as well as data visualization rules.

Responsibilities:

Cross-functional

  • Represent the Data Team in Cross-functional projects that involve machine-learning algorithms. (i.e. SLO model).
  • Participate in the design and protocols for meta-data management.
  • Participate in designing the architecture of how data should be tagged (meta-data) and stored.

Analysis/Reporting

  • Scoring models produce data that is used by legal and others to audit decline reasons.
  • Draft recommendations to Portfolio Risk, Credit Operations towards credit policy, based on data analysis.

Software Engineering and Implementation

  • Implement scoring models across all products.
  • Help the data pipeline that feeds into these models.

Provide expertise in Artificial Intelligence

  • All data-driven machine-learning models used are guided by candidate’s intellectual guidelines and recommendations. This is part of all the above functions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree: Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, or other relevant quantitative/scientific discipline (Additional experience may substitute).
  • 3 years Data Science experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph. D in Machine Learning or other very related area.
  • Experience with:
    • Requirements gathering.
    • Data ingestion.
    • Model building and tuning.
    • Deployment and integration of models to the rest of our production systems.
    • Monitor model results and impact.
  • Programming skills for deployment of developed models to a production environment (Python, Scala) and understanding of traditional relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and distributed systems (Redshift, BigQuery, Spark, Apache Hadoop).
