Your role:

Working in a multi-disciplinary COO/ business/ technology/ data / engineering squad, you will:

  • Work closely with the team (COOs, data scientists, analysts +) and front-to-back business partners to understand the underlying business problem, coordinate requirements and transform them into system requirements

  • Solve complex business problems with elegant technical solutions (i.e. highly accurate data models and set the technical requirements and strategy for how we ensure the best possible data accuracy)

  • Conduct analysis and work on a large data repositories: extract data from various data sources, consolidate, clean and analyse dependencies

  • Analyse manual processes and come up with proposals and designs for automated processes to reduce administrative overhead and for teams to be able to focus on value added tasks

  • Build robust data models, reports and visualisations downstream of backend services that support internal management information as well as governance reporting

  • Work to integrate new data sources into our data platform and collaborate with team to design, build and launch new data pipelines in production

  • Investigate and effectively work with colleagues from other disciplines to address and improve data quality

  • Work on technical improvements to achieve time and material benefits

  • Manage portfolio of standard and ad-hoc requests

  • Cooperate with stakeholders globally to understand their needs and provide support

  • Provide support for selected team's activities, or manage small projects

Your team

You will be working in the IB Technology team in partnership with the IB COO function based in London, to transform the way we run the business by building out solutions (including data platform, models, and tools) that deliver the next generation of analytics to empower UBS.

As part of the newly created COO focussed data engineering & scientists’ team, you will be exposed to business transformational and quantitative projects across the Investment Bank under a remit to deliver increased profitability or capacity optimisation through data-driven decisions & enhanced governance at scale. You will have an opportunity to deepen your commercial & business acumen alongside growth & development of your engineering skills in partnership with the business (COOs, front office +) in UBS. Your team will be responsible for our highly strategic digitalisation priorities for the IB COO group, putting you at the forefront of delivering on our innovation agenda.

Your expertise

  • Ideally, 4+ years of strong experience designing and developing large applications, analytics and data pipelines in a rigorous production environment.

  • proficiency in Scala and/or Python or similar. Experience in both is a huge plus.

  • must have experience in some or all of data and cloud technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Hive, YARN, Kafka, Terraform, Microsoft Azure components and Databricks

  • good knowledge of building event-based, loosely coupled distributed applications.

  • strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and other data infrastructure like cloudera

  • experience working with Spark and/or PySpark

  • strong understanding of data structures and object-oriented programming

  • data modelling skills, specifically ability to come up with logical and physical data models (Entity Relationship Diagrams)

  • strong understanding of relational database concepts and NoSQL databases

  • experience working with Git or similar version control software - nowadays everybody should be proficient in git regardless his role – can include some git Qs on the interview rather than set it as a requirement in the JD

  • experience working in a large-scale enterprise development environment

  • you have knowledge of one or more: SQL, PowerQuery and/ or general data warehousing concepts

  • knowledge of or experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery/ agile methodology

  • strong analytical and critical thinking skills that can handle ambiguous business problems and enjoy finding technical solutions to them

  • an excellent communicator that can liaise with a wide range of global stakeholders, both technical and non-technical

  • well-developed negotiation and influential skills with technical and non-technical audiences

  • you strive for improvement, proactively identifying issues and opportunities and getting them prioritised & remediated

  • ability to upskill in in new technologies and their application in investment banking

  • experience developing applications that rely on many web APIs and other protocols.
