• Full time, fixed term position until June 2024
• Based in Launceston, at Mount Pleasant
• Undertake research into industry aligned data science problems in the agricultural and food sector.

The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) is a research institute responsible for supporting sustainable agricultural and food sectors through high-impact research, development, extension, and education within Tasmania.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Centre Leader of Agricultural Systems, the Data Scientist is a mentor role responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to staff and students of the University in the scientific planning, design, data analysis and reporting of the Tasmanian Institute of Agricultural (TIA) Research and Development and Industry Engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide advice to staff and students in scientific planning, design, data analysis and reporting.
• Mentor staff and postgraduate students to carry out tasks.
• Lead the training of staff and HDR students in statistical programming applications.
• Deliver the learning and teaching of scientific planning, statistical design, data analysis and interpretation.
• Lead research activities that enable agricultural sectors in Tasmania to use digital data.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

• A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Refereed publications and a track record of research funding success.
• Experience in the delivery of teaching.
• Knowledge of the statistical methodology.
• Experience in the use of R, C and Python.
• Machine learning concepts and techniques.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B or Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $158,046 comprising base salary within the range of $98,537 to $135,082 plus 17% superannuation.
