The South West Europe Cluster
now brings together nearly 4,000 people spread over more than 150 sites in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Being part of its “Core Team” means joining a team made up of people of different nationalities combining expertise, passion and creativity; a truly international team that works in a network in 4 countries with the Customer as the driving force. This new “agile” organization, working in a network, promotes rapid decision-making by being close to the business teams to guarantee excellence in performance, innovation and the creation of value for our customers.

The Large Industries (LI) business line is the production arm of Air Liquide. LI supplies gas and energy solutions to customers in the metals, chemicals, refining and energy industries everywhere in the world. Through its plants and its extensive pipeline network, Air Liquide provides oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and carbon monoxide in large quantities. The Smart and Innovative Operations (SIO) organization was launched in 2015 with the mission to deliver a step change in Operational Excellence of LI assets by leveraging digital tools and data-driven decision making.

The mission of the SIO data team is to provide all relevant stakeholders with Business Intelligence (BI). The team is focused on the automatization, standardization and digitalization of tasks as the basis for good quality data collection. Leveraging the cloud data infrastructure, the team exploits operational and business data sets to build BI dashboards and data science solutions. Today, BI dashboards for Energy and Commercial teams are a top priority for the SIO data team.

Missions and Responsibilities

Energy Contribution (EC) is the business performance indicator used in LI to monitor and analyze the Operating Income (OI) linked to energy costs and energy sales. After one year of development, a PowerBI dashboard of EC covering the four countries of the cluster has been finally put in production.

The EC Dashboard brings together data from multiple sources in a standard way and provides unique capabilities for analyzing key contributors to LI’s OI. Today, this first version of the tool is used by Energy managers, Operations Control, Commercial teams and all levels of Management. After this first milestone, we need to continue improving the solution by including additional information, improving the analysis and providing new functionalities.

The person taking over this mission will be the solution Owner of SWE EC PowerBI Dashboard. Hereafter we provide a non-exhaustive list of the tasks:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of SWE EC Dashboard (Phase 1) in production: ensure data pipelines and correct computation and visualization of metrics.
  • Responsible for carrying out SWE EC Dashboard (Phase 2), delivering a new version of the dashboard with new data sets, dashboard features and analysis capabilities (preliminary list already identified).
    • Data flow diagrams and identification of steps prone to automation (incl. data sourcing)
    • When necessary, development of BI-compliant Gsheets to feed dashboard: GSheets with the good data structured for BI ingestion and connected to legacy Gsheets
    • Development of BI layer in collaboration with Group IT teams (GDO and BIS): data transformations, data model design and development of PowerBI Dashboards.
  • Participate in workshops and internal meetings with end-users for a user-centric design of the tool: gathering of feedback and follow up with users
  • Ensure alignment of figures between new dashboard and existing EC tools at entity level
  • Ensure work if fully documented for future handover to operations & IT teams
  • Ensure maximum automation of the process

Competencies and Profile
  • Master degree in Engineering, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence or relevant field
  • Fundamental knowledge of energy systems & markets (electricity and natural gas)
  • Data modeling, SQL language & Power BI
  • Communication skills, written and oral, able to effectively interface with heterogeneous stakeholders (senior management, plants, central SWE positions, etc)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Capability to provide supporting documentation
  • Skillful with IT Tools

Language: Fluent English (Mandatory); French, Spanish, Italian are optional
