This is a full-time/exempt term position lasting six months to one year. In your pivotal role as a Data Analyst, you will work with project leads and project managers, and partner with the data quality teams to provide data quality and analytics expertise for health realted data. Work hands-on with partners at other Healthcare Provider Organizations as well as new data product teams to assess data quality and provide guidance and support for data quality improvements.


  • Assists with ad hoc reporting of data quality
  • Supports data quality benchmark reporting for baseline and new data types
  • Collaborates with project leads, project managers and engineering teams to develop quality assurance methodologies and conduct quality assurance tests on baseline and new data types
  • Assist with the development of operational reports and dashboards
  • Identify areas where data quality improvements are needed

  • Has demonstrated an understanding of analysis methods, design concepts, data organization, business models, capabilities and limitations. Successfully applies statistical/data analytics concepts in practical applications of moderate difficulty.


  • Skillfully demonstrates data modeling in applications of moderate difficulty. Integrates data modeling into an overall systems development methodology [SDM]. Uses prominent structured and objectoriented modeling methods of logical business data modeling. Knows the fundamental principles of conceptual data modeling using the leading Entity/Relationship Diagramming [ERD] methods.


  • Skillfully demonstrates metadata analysis in applications of moderate difficulty. Navigates within established technology environments to locate, validate, extract, and format data for data analysis. Modifies and runs queries and standard reports from data tools and provide to users. Identifies data values and data sources.


  • Communicates with internal and external customers without requiring support and instruction from others. Meets with business customers to elicit data requirements and identifies the relationships between data items. Effectively communicates ideas and information to others, including nontechnical audiences in writing, with numbers, verbally and/or visually. Shares knowledge, ideas and information openly, and effectively sells new ideas and influences others.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (VICTR) is Vanderbilt’s virtual home for clinical and translational research. Supported by Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Office of Research and the NIH-sponsored Clinical and Translational Service Award (CTSA), the mission of the institute is to transform the way ideas and research discoveries make their way from origin to patient care. VICTR functions to help researchers and clinicians do their jobs better by providing tools and support to improve the quality of research, publications, grant writing, and training for future doctors and researchers.

Additional Information:

This is a term position. A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends. This position may also have the opportunity to work remotely.


  • Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, math, statistics or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3 years relevant experience (Preferred)
  • Strong SQL


  • Master of Science degree in computer science, math, statistics or related field (Preferred)
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data types
  • Strong understanding of relational databases
  • Understanding some programming language, such as Python
  • Experience preparing analytics reports and dashboards
  • Experience creating and working with visualization software (Python and R packages, etc.)
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
