Turo

Staff Data Scientist (ML Ops)

Job description

Turo is the world's largest car sharing marketplace where you can book any car you want, wherever you want it, from a vibrant community of trusted hosts across the US, Canada, and the UK. Whether you're flying in from afar or looking for a car down the street, searching for a rugged truck or something smooth and swanky, guests can take the wheel of the perfect car for any occasion, while hosts can take the wheel of their futures by building an accessible, flexible, and scalable car sharing business from the ground up.

Data is our fuel at Turo. It is ever-more abundant and valuable, but it's raw material. Harnessed by data scientists and machine learning engineers, it propels Turo on its mission to put the world's 1.5+ billion cars to better use, delighting our customers with matching the right car for their next adventure from an exceptionally diverse selection, and at the same time helping our marketplace remain safe.

We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join our team and help us build a world-class ML Ops framework.

You're excited to solve meaningful business problems. You are comfortable with a range of statistical and machine learning techniques. Modeling is your thing, you are proficient in translating unstructured business problems into mathematical frameworks, and propose scalable solutions.

You have a passion for consumer products, and are excited to play a key role in crafting the product from inception to implementation, and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Data Science team to build our MLOps framework.
  • Partner closely with the ML engineering team to help develop the new ML platform, that will service a rapidly growing number of use-cases and functions across Turo.
  • You will focus on our training, testing, and deployment pipelines. Produce high-quality maintainable code, test it, collaboratively review it and ship it.
  • You will also lead the end-to-end process of conceptualizing, developing, deploying, and analyzing ML models.
  • Mentor junior team members to help them elevate to the next level.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Data Science experience, including software engineering. You have a strong engineering background, have experience putting ML training, testing, and production pipelines in place, and scaling them (MLFlow, TFX).
  • Fluent in a production-ready programming language such as Python.
  • Understanding of mathematical methods in statistics, optimization, and machine learning. Demonstrable experience applying these methods to real world prediction problems.
  • Strongly self-motivated with a keen eye for detail. A natural desire to learn and innovate with like-minded colleagues.
