Data Analyst Expert II

Job description

Data Analysis Expert II are business, function, or process specialists and can be technology generalists or specialists

Key Responsibilities

Business Skills

  • Provides strong analytical and technical expertise within an assigned function(s)/business units/area, frequently leading a project team, in the analysis, design, development and implementation of business solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of current IT projects across PPG and planned projects within their own IT group in order to promote analytics, data and solution sharing
  • Collaborate and frequently lead company customers, staff members, IT colleagues, and other partners to define detailed functional and technical requirements
  • Assess available technologies then develop and present viable solution options
  • Maintain a proficient knowledge of various data ingestion, integration and visualization tools and processes.
  • Frequently participate in planning processes. This may include evaluating new technologies and making recommendations to management.

Technical Skills

  • Translate business requirements into data model and visualization designs, and/or communicate the need for predictive analytics when required to support PPG businesses decisions
  • Perform and lead feasibility studies, translate requirements into an appropriate design, formulate and define application scope and objectives, and implement complete solutions
  • Prepare detailed specifications from which analytics solutions will be developed
  • Craft, modify, and test programming code themselves, lead teams doing so, and/or provide technical consulting support on projects or system issues
  • Supervise the creation of data models, visualizations, associated source code, operations, and user documentation
  • Effectively assess objectives for assigned project phases and recommend and implement technical strategies and tactics to achieve business and project goals

Project Management Skills

  • Provide technical leadership on one or more projects and are expected to give direction to both PPG employees and contract resources.
  • Prioritize resources and tasks, developing risk contingencies, adjusting project scope, interacting with purchasing, and providing management feedback
  • Identify barriers to meeting project goals, and provide solutions that keep projects on track and on budget
  • Monitor and report to management on the status of project efforts; may be held accountable for controlling project plans and costs on smaller projects

Interpersonal Skills

  • Directly influence design and project priorities
  • Strong mentoring skills
  • Proactively cultivate and maintain good relationships with customers and IT colleagues to meet project achievements and customer service levels
  • Mentor and direct others on multiple projects, some of which are outside the area of immediate expertise


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent field, or equivalent work experience and technical training
  • At least 10 year of learning experience in data/systems analysis, design, development, and implementation
  • Proficient understanding of business needs and how to address those needs with effective data models and IT solutions.
  • Project management techniques and analytical and conceptual skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal with good communication skills, including technical writing
  • Outstanding systems and process orientation
  • Proficient English
