Common App is currently searching for a Data Scientist to support our applied research work.
Reporting to the Vice President, Data Analytics and Research, our team of data scientists help to build Common App’s evolving data analytic and research function. These individuals are engaged with all aspects of the research function, including oversight of data warehousing, development of internal and external (college or university) facing business intelligence tools, production of analytic research reports in support of organizational priorities and strategic initiatives, and will lead one or more of these areas. We are currently recruiting a data scientist to support our applied research work. This individual will work with internal staff and external researchers to collect, analyze, model, and visualize data that will be used to inform initiatives that enhance the student experience.
The ideal candidate will possess a master’s degree in a quantitative discipline and three years relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree and five to seven years relevant experience. This role will provide leadership to the applied research function, and so deep expertise in inferential and multivariate statistics, and experience working in the higher education industry is required. Candidates must also be fluent in data manipulation and coding with SQL. Other relevant experience to include database architecture and ETL procedures, data analytics and reporting, data mining, data visualization (Tableau and R preferred), and working with and validating imperfect data. Experience working with National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Census, College Scorecard, and other publicly available datasets is strongly preferred. Individuals must possess strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse environment. A passion for access, equity and integrity issues within the postsecondary college admissions process is preferred.
