About the role

As part of AMP's Data enablement hub, the Cyber Security team are responsible for analytics use-cases which span all of AMP’s business units. This includes the key area of financial crimes which spans KYC, financial transaction monitoring, and detection of risk potential, and other enterprise-wide data analytics.

As an experienced Data Scientist, you are well versed in advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualisation techniques, to create solutions that enable enhanced decision making and business performance.

The purpose of the Data Scientist is to combine data, computational science, and technology with Financial Crimes SMEs, to drive high-value insights and assist in driving efficiencies and buying down risk into the business. Use your first-class storytelling skills to powerfully communicate the key insights to the broader business. Initial six month fixed term contract with a view to extend.

Key Responsibilities

  • Query and cleanse data from a diverse set of data sets and databases, using advanced SQL/Python techniques to define analytical products which meet project needs, and interpret business rules into code.
  • Acquire additional information to resolve specific business issues and inform decisions
  • Create insights from data and communicate these effectively to stakeholders and consumers of these
  • Effectively record, manage and store information and data for future reference and reporting
  • Deliver robust documentation, code and processes in accordance with Group Analytics operating model and tools, using Confluence, Gitlab, and Sharepoint to ensure a clear audit trail of decisions, implementation and lineage of data products.


Capabilities & Experience

  • Proficiency in data science toolsets (SQL, Python, R, etc.) and algorithms (regression, tree based, PCA, SOMs, Kmeans, clustering, etc.) to create analytical assets and monitor these for ongoing accuracy
  • Extensive experience in analytic consulting and engagement with non-technical teams, with a proven ability to communicate clearly, explain and resolve issues
  • Solid experience in Business Intelligence and Analytics
  • Experience in managing data quality issues to completion, including identifying, measurement and implementing analytics solutions to work around quality issues by cleansing and matching records
  • Experience in data visualisation tools such as PowerBI, Qliksense or Tableau.
  • Experience in financial crime risk management, with emphasis on AML/CTF and Sanctions (highly regarded)
  • Experience in AWS tool stack for analytics. (i.e. Sagemaker, EMR, SparkSQL, Rstudio)
