General Summary:

The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Clinical Epidemiology Program is seeking a full-time Data Analyst. PIs are physician scientists with a clinical focus on systemic lupus erythematosus, gout, and other rheumatic diseases. This research will use methods of clinical epidemiology, including prospectively-collected data and retrospective large database research.

Example projects include:

  • Long-term outcomes, such as death, cardiovascular disease, and renal disease, in systemic lupus erythematosus and other rheumatic diseases
  • Survey analysis of patient preferences for lupus treatment options
  • Epidemiology of COVID-19 in patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases
  • Epidemiology of and risk factors for medication toxicity, such as hydroxychloroquine retinopathy
  • Epidemiology of and outcomes analysis for inflammatory arthritis

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Communicate with clinical investigators to understand scientific issues, determine appropriate statistical analyses, and describe results
  • Work with the study team and senior statisticians to develop reporting and quality control plans
  • Use SAS to generate reports on study progress
  • Develop programs to perform complete data validation and error detection, ensuring that all are informed of any issues relating to data integrity
  • Provide senior statisticians with data requests and sample pull lists for Principal Investigators
  • Perform statistical analysis of data
  • Assist in grant, abstract, and manuscript preparation
  • Assist in design of interventional studies and analysis plans for external data sets
  • Attend team meetings

The position requires a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree (epidemiology or biostatistics preferred) with a strong background and demonstrated ability in quantitative analysis. The candidate must possess superior organizational, administrative, time management and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally at all levels. Exceptional quantitative and analytical skills are essential. Computer skills, as described below, are required. The candidate must have excellent English language (spoken and written) skills.

  • Knowledge of statistics
  • At least 1 year of experience programming in SAS®, which might be gained from coursework or prior research experience.
  • Capacity to manipulate and organize large amounts of data
  • Excellent communication skills, as much of the incumbent’s work will be summarized in written reports to investigators
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly
  • Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a remote work setting, including the use of teleconferencing
  • Intellectual independence and initiative
  • Previous research experience of 1 or more years and prior experience with health services data (such as Medicare, Medicaid, Nurses health data, electronic health records data) preferred
  • Interest in public health and/or medicine

Duties will be carried out in a hybrid or remote work and a typical office environment. Fully remote work will be considered.
