Position: Data Scientist

Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Data scientist to join their growing Data team. This Data Scientist role will support the development of analytic solutions across various business units, such as Finance, Operations, Accounting, and Supply Chain. The main objectives are:

  • Develop machine learning solutions to support new business initiatives and facilitate next best actions.
  • Architect and lead the implementation of driverless forecasting systems using best practices in data science.
  • Lead DevOps for new and existing models, utilizing cloud and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop inventory optimization and simulation frameworks for supply chain management.
  • Support forecasting and optimization needs for transportation, including route selection and late delivery prediction.
  • Fully automate existing forecasting solutions.
  • Design and implement model variance analysis and impact tracking frameworks.
  • Deploy statistical models in production.
  • Develop statistical simulation decision frameworks.

Other Responsibilities

  • Gather user requirements, support stakeholders' analytic needs, and drive adoption of analytic solutions.
  • Identify and develop business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in data science, analytics, or programming, combining industry and academic experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Finance, Economics) is required. A Master's or Ph.D. is preferred.

Critical Skills

  • Experience across the full data stack, from data wrangling to scaling stakeholder solutions.
  • Expertise in machine learning and data science best practices.
  • Strong SQL experience.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming (Python, R).
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (Python, Java, C#, VBA).
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, including linear regression, A/B testing, and probability distributions.

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Analytical and process thinking.
  • Team player with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, Snowflake, Oracle).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Databricks) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and reporting.
  • Experience with data mining using enterprise systems (e.g., SAP or JD Edwards).
  • Understanding of data warehousing and ETL best practices is a plus.
