Chief Data Engineer

Background

Working across multiple Lines of Business, you will guide a talented team of Engineers for enabling

business goals to be delivered efficiently and effectively keeping our Engineering Delivery Teams at the top of industry evolution in software and data engineering, data science and machine learning concepts, practices, and technologies.

You Will Also Be Responsible For

• Providing clear direction and advice on data engineering best practices, standards and guidelines to enable build of collaborating with divisional, data and enterprise Architecture functions to create data product design and engineering roadmaps and promote through the relevant Design Authorities
• Working in collaboration with the Chief engineers and Line-of Business Service Owner to engineer and build Enterprise Data Products
• Engaging and partnering with the Head of Data Products and Head of Engineering in development and maintenance of a Data Products Framework
• Support and monitoring developments in the Data Products, Data Science, Advanced Data Technologies industries presenting findings and recommendations to the Divisional Data Platforms Team and Data Architecture
• Coordinating the planning and execution of Proof of Concepts in close collaboration with the Data Platforms Engineering and Data Architecture functions
• Creating and updating Capability Maturity assessments across existing and emerging Data Products using the Scorecard to inform when to invest, maintain and when to retire
• Demonstrating and communicating with Divisional Technologists and Business Partners the business and customer value of the Data Products and Services offered by Data Platforms
• Engaging closely with the Data Engineering Practice and Data Science COE to ensure regular assessment and alignment of process and practise maturity
• Assessing and understanding the evolving requirements of Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Citizens, and other Data Professionals around the Division to ensure their experience in achieving their day-to-day outcomes is optimal – be an advocate for data professionals
• Presenting at Engineering functions, industry events and forums to promote the Data Products and Services on offer

What do I need?

• You will be responsible, able to work self sufficiently
• Demonstrated engineering experience guiding large teams of Engineers, Data Scientists and technical professionals
• Advanced knowledge of Data Products /Data Mesh and modern Data Technologies including relational data, semi/unstructured data, data engineering frameworks and machine learning libraries/technologies
• Advanced knowledge and implementation experience of Data Lakehouse on Public Cloud Services (Azure PaaS services preferred) and their usage and implementation across a complex data ecosystem
• Excellent proficiency in Data Engineering, Data Science and Machine Learning spanning multiple libraries, languages and technologies
• Proven communication and presentation skills in a technology domain delivered to a GM- Level audience
• Experience developing Data Models, Architectural Designs, Patterns and Roadmaps in a Data context
• Ability to play a mentoring relationship for the wider team
• Capability to facilitate and foster stakeholder relationships
