About the Role
The Lead Data Scientist independently designs and builds analytical products to improve business processes. These products include using algorithms for automation, building predictive models, designing experiments, attempting causal inference with observational data, and using mathematical optimization to find the most profitable business policies. The Lead Data Scientist works with technical and non-technical members of the company to help oversee/lead the creation and adoption of analytical products. The Lead Data Scientist also mentors other team members.
This position is part of our larger Data & Analytics Division, located at our headquarters in St. Louis, MO. This team support our executive teams, multiple business lines, and our field teams througout the world. This role is a new addition to a team that is in the middle of a personnel increase of nearly 40%. Candidates in the greater St. Louis Area will have the opportunity to work on a highly flexible hybrid schedule with predominantly work-from-home options. Consideration will be given to remote work for candidates outdside of the St. Louis Area as well.

Responsibilties
- Independently lead the design and delivery of end-to-end advanced analytical solutions that address the business needs
- Independently extract, clean and manipulate both structured and unstructured datasets
- Perform exploratory data analysis, generate hypotheses and extract actionable insights
- Develop statistical and/or mathematical models that are put in production; assess current models in production and identify opportunities for enhancement and automation
- Independently design and oversee the execution of experiments
- Independently deliver detailed documentation including descriptions of efforts, results, insights and recommendations
- Create and deliver presentations to team members and other business units
- Partner with the other teams to bring solutions to life
- Provide guidance to other Data Scientists on the team; Assist the Manager with training and development
- Evaluate new data technologies to determine the effectiveness of the solution and its feasibility
- Seek to develop strategies to link the team's analytical activities with business goals and objectives

Qualifications
Minimum:
- Master's Degree in a statistical/mathematical field (e.g. engineering, social science, statistics)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
- Must have six or more years of experience in the following:
- Experience with predictive models, statistical inference, and other forms of quantitative analysis
- End-to-end experience building data science products that drive value
- Experience preparing and giving presentations to technical and non-technical audiences
- Must be proficient in R/Python
- Must have experience using Linux/Unix
Preferred
- Ph.D. in a statistical/mathematical field (e.g. engineering, social science, statistics)
- Experience using Scala/PySpark and SQL
